Rube Goldberg – Blog Post 7

Final Reflection

The Rube Goldberg project was very challenging.

I learned the following:

  • Patience.  You need to be patient as things do not work as they should and you need to keep trying until you get it right. You need to problem solve when things do not work. You need to reset your project a a lot of times. We had 50 tries before we had a succesful run.
  • Step-by-Step.  It was easier doing our design step-by-step. We tried a couple of steps together and tested them sucessfully a couple of time before moving on to the next. This help us as it make it easier to determine what steps should follow.  It also avoid that we did not have to keep setting up someting that would not work.
  • Flexibility.  You need to be flexible about changing your design when it does not work.
  • Using Different Levels.  I learned that using different levels gave us more options because you have gravity to use as an advantage. You can have dominos or things that may fall and tricker another reaction.
  • Marking. I learned that securing and marking the objects will help in resetting quickly and achievieng a succesful run. For example, we securred the HotWheel ramp to the counter.  We also marked in the floor where the the book/cd cases should go so that we could set up quicker.

It was a great experience working with my group.  I had lot of fun.
