Mixtures and Solutions 2

Today we conducted an experiment with colored sugar and three different liquids. Oil, vinegar, and water. we mixed the colored sugar with one of the liquids. there were three different experiments. In each experiment, the sugar is the solute and the liquid was the solvent. The solute is what is dissolved in the solution and the solvent is what dissolves the solute.

The first experiment we mixed oil with colored sugar. We had twenty-five milliliters of oil and one teaspoon of colored sugar. My hypothesis was if we mix one teaspoon of colored sugar with oil then the oil will turn green. My observations were the oil cleared up and you can see clear through it. The sugar sank to the bottom. My hypothesis was denied.

The second experiment is colored sugar with water. We had twenty-five milliliters of water and one teaspoon of colored sugar. My hypothesis was if we mix one teaspoon of colored sugar with water then the sugar will dissolve in the water and the water will turn green. My observations were the water turned green and the sugar dissolved in the water. My hypothesis was true.

The last experiment we mixed twenty-five milliliters of vinegar and one teaspoon of colored sugar. My hypothesis was if we mix one teaspoon of colored sugar with vinegar then the colored sugar will rise. My observations were that part of the colored sugar dissolved and the rest sank to the bottom. My hypothesis was denied. That was today’s work of mixtures and solutions.
