Paper Airplanes

We started to build paper airplanes as a model for our glider. I realized that the less weight it had the better it flew. Also, the planes had to be aerodynamic to be able to glide a little. My paper airplane wings were to big, which made it nose dive most of the time. I Read More…

Skateboard Wheels

To make a skateboard wheel, They change the shape of the wheels by cutting and molding pieces together. At one point they put the wheel in a liquid that helps make the wheel. It is amazing how many machines go into making a small skateboard wheel. It takes approximately 3 days to finish it. When Read More…

Summary

This year I have learned many things like simple machines and electricity. I learned all the math about levers and the basics to electricity. My favorite project was when we made truss bridges because it seemed very amazing to me. I loved tech. It was very helpful with videos explaining everything we learned.

Metals

Yesterday I watched a documentary about metal. I learned that for wires we use copper. Copper is a conductor. A conductor means that you let electricity flow. I also learned that gold can reflect mostly anything. They even built a gold satilite. It was very fun to watch that documentary.

Electroscope

Today I finished my electroscope. I tested it by rubbing a plastic bottle on a towel. When the bottle got close the tin foil started shaking. This is because when I rubbed the plastic bottle on the towel, it took all the Newtons from the atom. When the bottle got close the neutrons started to Read More…

Gears

This week, we have been learning about gears. Gears are basically wheel and axles but they have teeth. You can find a gear in a bike. There are two different types of gears, diver and driven. To find them mechanical advantage you would divide the driver gear to the driven gear. Some people only think Read More…

Lever

Today, I finished my lever project. I made a catapult. The length of the effort arm was 2 9/16 inches. The length of the load arm was 1 1/4 inches. The mechanical advantage was 2.05. I tested the catapult by launching marbles from the kitchen doorway. They went pretty far (approximately to the entrance of Read More…

FabMaker Studio

Today I tried to learn a new tool called FabMaker Studio. It is a website were you experiment with objects which will be folded into the final product. In FabMaker Studio I made a cube. It looked just like a cube. I think I did very good. I think that this a great tool to Read More…

Truss Bridges

Today, I finished my truss bridge project. I compared my truss bridge to a cube. A cube easily fell because its angles are not locked in. When I tested the cube by putting a notebook on top of it, I saw the cube change shape into a parrelagram and crumpled like it was supposed to. Read More…

I-Beam Project

Today, I finished my I-beam project. I built the I-beam slightly tilted so many of the objects I tested fell to the side. In the process of building the I-beam, I might have not made the creases wide enough to put the strip in. I also think that the strips were not properly in the Read More…
