Tech Post #6 – Plastics recycling

The plastic I can’t recycle is plastic bags and they can be really bad for the environment but Scarsdale does not take it to be recycled. If there was a way to recycle I definitely would because it’s really bad for the environment. My family and I did find away to recycle plastic bags because if you go to stop and shop or decicos you can recycle your plastic bags there and I am  pretty sure they take it to a place we’re they can recycle it. This doesn’t require to much effort because it’s a small drive or even a small bike ride. I would and have done this lots of times.

Today I will be writing about something cool I learned in class. I thought it was really cool to learn about how different types of woods are made and how each type of wood has a specific purpose. Like hardwood are mainly used for the inside of houses like beds and some walls. Another thing about wood that I found interesting was that wood can sometimes be unnatural. Then it would be engineered woods. I found it cool how people adjusted wood to serve the purposes they need with the engineered wood. Thank you for reading today’s blog post.

Portfolio blog post 3

In this blog post I will be answering question number two. I think that before all this technology was added to timber harvesting it must have been really hard, tiring, slow and dangerous to do this. I think that one of the main problems would be how slow it would be because they need to do it all just by themselves and have to use actual human strength. Also that would be very tiring so they would slow down quickly. I think that they used tools that made it easier to push things like some sort of thing in wheels. I think I would make like a realer coaster type thing to get the logs all the way.

This blog is about how boys talk more then girls in zoom class but girls email the teachers more. I think that this happens maybe because the bots have more friends in their class so they feel more comfortable talking out loud. I also think another reason could be that boys play more online video games so they are more used to talking out loud to lots of people online. Even if they don’t know them to well. I also think this could be random because in school I think everyone talks basically the same amount so it could just be a coincidence

Tech post 5

In class when Mr Calvert was gone we watched a documentary on Nikola Tesla. Besides the fact of how scratchy the film was I learned a lot and it was very entertaining. He was born in 1856 and died in a hotel in New York in 1943. When he migrated to America he made leaps in electricity and more. He even invented the type of light we use now.

In technology, we learned about atoms and the periodic table.  There can be different amounts of protons and neutrons to make different elements. Protons are positive and they have a different effect on elements and neutrons are negative. We also learned all about the periodic table and how to read it.

Final Overview and Presenting

Yesterday I performed my Ted talk to all the parents and it went pretty well. The one thing I did wrong was accidentally skipped the part of my script that talked about faze shift delay. The thing I did well was once I skipped this I kept making eye contact with the audience and I talked loudly. Presenting was fun and I think the best part of this was talking about sleep disorders because the audience looked so engrossed into what I was saying. Overall I really liked the project and to this day I am still very interested in my topic. I mainly liked researching sleep disorders solutions because I think it is cool to see how people fix problems. I learned that on stage I stutter a little bit and when I look over the audience it helps. I also learned that I am very good at taking notes and organizing them

Question skills

I think that through this process my question asking has got a lot better, now when I ask questions about bigger topics I ask questions that have many answers and spark other questions. I think I learned these mostly from the start of the project when we had to set our question for the whole entire project. I also learned these skills from my interview when I had to make 20 questions.

Talking

I also learned through this process how to talk in public when I was talking to the crowd and asking my interview questions.

Final slideshow and script

I’ve been working on my capstone for a while and I finally came out with my final presentation. I am very proud of it and I think that if I were to redo it I would change nothing. I think this because I had a great strategy of doing my script then making little bullet notes of things I have to say. I did this because now when I’m reading my script final presentation I can make eye contact with the audience. Also with this strategy, it will help me memorize my script because it doesn’t have to be one way every time . The other thing I had a problem with was finding photos that didn’t have a mark on it. I also had to find photos that were big enough so I wouldn’t have to stretch them so they look bad. The one solution I had for this with my only solution and it was to go to the side filter and change the size. I feel pretty good about reading this in public because I have memorized most of it and I talk loud enough so people can hear me the one other thing I like about my script is it’s not extremely long it’s only five and a half minutes.

Answering main inquiry question

My main research question for my capstone project is: “Why do we sleep and how does that help the body develop?”. I found a lot of websites but first I had to have good search terms. This was one of my fails since I was typing all my questions into google so I didn’t get good results. An example of this is instead of typing in sleep disorders I would type in what are some sleep disorders that keep people awake?. Advertisements for beds would appear on my screen, a website might have looked good but it was really an ad. From this, I learned that it’s important to write a list of really good search terms to start a research project. I think this will help me in life when I do another research project.

the most helpful resource was my interview because I could ask questions, get answers and ask more questions (follow up questions).
