Prisoner B-3087 post #1

Overall I believe this book is very interesting so far from the first quarter. So much has happened so far and it is so intense. In the book so far, there is a quote that really interested me. It was on page 29 and it was said by the officer that raided Yanek flat looking for Jewelry and valuables. It was “Your valuables ,”The officer said. “Now. Or you will be taken away.” This quote is very significant when it comes to the book’s story line. This quote shows what happens to Yankes family and every other family in town. This quote adds to the piece of literature the state at which Yanek and his family are in. If the Nazis are just allowed to come into your house, steal everything you own and leave without any consequences it just shows that they can do whatever they want.  This quote stood out to me a lot because as a boy who lives in Scarsdale where something like this would never happen it is crazy to read about it. The fact that if you don’t give away your valuables you will be ripped away from your family, I believe that is terrible and I believe it shows the hostility and hatred Nazis have toward Jews. I believe that this quote shows one of the worst aspects of Nazis. This quote foreshadows what is in stock for Yanek, his family, and Jews in general, which is that things are going to get a lot worse. This is because this quote shows the brutality of the Nazis and it shows that this is just how they are. This quote can connect to the larger thematic issue which is that the Nazis are terrible which is what Yankek will have to experience first hand for the rest of the book.
