Immigration #1: Preparing for the Interview

My class was assigned to do a immigration project. I started to wonder of who I could interview. I suddenly remembered that my Dad immigrated. My Dad immigrated from South Africa to America.

In preparing for my interview, I did some research on immigration and what immigrants have to go through. From researching, I had some ideas of what my questions could be to ask my Dad. My class was assigned to do 10-15 questions. I came up with 15 questions. I made sure that the questions were informational so I could make a Spark video. My teacher also assigned my class to do a Spark video of who we’re interviewing.

I think this interview will go well because I already know a lot about immigration and my Dad’s story. I am excited to learn more about my Dad’s journey to America and how he felt as a fifth grade student coming to a new country.

Interview Questions

MLK (Martin Luther King)

Doing a Martin Luther King Jr. timeline was very interesting and fun. My favorite thing about researching on Martin Luther King Jr. is putting together the timeline. I learned that Martin Luther King Jr. got arrested 35 times and he won a Nobel Peace prize in 1964. I also learned that Martin Luther King Jr. lead a bus boycott and died in 1968. Martin Luther King Jr. was a famous black leader.

Here is the link to my timeline:

Colonial America Book Reflection

One day my teacher told my class that we would do a colonial america book. We first picked our topic. I choose colonial girls because I wanted to see what the difference would be between now and in colonial times. Then we started to research until we felt like we had enough. After we copied down our information on index cards and glued them down into our plan. Then we started to make a draft on our google drive. After we copied our draft into our book. Then we put in pictures into our book. Then we did our glossary. After we used this special app to do our bibliography and put it into our book.

My favorite part of the project is putting the book together because it was fun to put the writing in the book. I disliked that it took a long time to complete the book. The research that I did was interesting because I did not know anything about colonial girls.

I learned about myself is that I am focused when I am researching.

If I did this project again I would not do anything different because the steps are easy and fun.

I hope you enjoy my book.

In the start of 4th grade my teacher told my class and I to do a curiosity project. A Curiosity Project is something your intrested on researching.
