Capstone #7

For Capstone before CapCon day our school thought that there is already enough pressure for the day why add more. So we are recording our presentation two days before.

When I presented my slideshow I was very scared. I thought I would forget my whole script. Luck for me that did not happen. But I did stutter a bit. Once it took me around five to six seconds to think what I was going to say. But then I remembered what I was going to say and I was so happy because of that. If I could do it again I would bring my script to refer to. Now I know to practice as much as I can before CapCon day so I don’t stutter.

For the whole Capstone experience I there where some things I loved and some things I hated. The parts I hated was researching and writing the essay. I think I hated these two things because for research I always hated research from any project no matter what. And for the essay it took me so long to do it and it took so much work and just to much thinking. But what I loved is memorising my script. For a lot of people this was very hard. I don’t know why it was easy for me, maybe because I got into my research but I don’t know for sure.

Capstone was my favorite unit ever. And I’m very proud of how far I came with my speech skills. Over all I really loved Capstone.

Rube Goldberg 6

For a final blog post of our Rube Goldberg machine I had a lot of fun! There were some good times and no bad time at all. I think that my favorite part of the whole project was succeeding. I loved the feeling I got knowing that we finished way before everyone else. There was one thing that I liked the least (but is still not that bad) was the designing. I think I liked this the least because me and Tate were so excited to get started and once we did get started all we did was brainstorm but then we had to face reality. We realized that our ideas would never work. But there were some things that inspired me. Like from family guy the breakfast machine.

I learned a lot in this project. For example I learned teamwork with Tate. I also learned how to have fun while doing work. I had so much fun doing Rube Goldberg. I think is the most fun I will ever have doing school work. And that’s how my project went. And if you are interested in my video here it is:

After planing, designing and succeeding on camera there is only one more thing to, make a video on wevideo. This step is important because you can’t just show a video to your whole class first without making it look nice seconded with no slow motion and third with no fails. So me and Tate HAD to do it. So one day we met up before a hockey game and I thought that we were done but it turns out we had to do that to so I was pretty surprised but because Tate had already started a little of it he taught me what I had to do. I was surprised that it took us only about

15 – 20 minutes (including so distractions) unlike our actual machine. But it did take a while to learn how to upload it to drive and to share with my google account but other than that it only took 15 – 20 minutes. I think that it would have been hard if Tate did not teach me how to do it because I forgot how to from class a few months ago. And that’s what it was like to do the wevideo.

Rube Goldberg 4

Me and Tate have been have been doing a lot of work together lately. We have already finished our plan and building so now we are testing our Rube Goldberg and it’s frustrating, very frustrating because first you have to put up the dominos and it ALWAYS FALLS DOWN. Also say something you know works because it worked before and it does not work the next time because you don’t place something right. Even once our Rube Goldberg worked but the hockey puck was not placed right so it missed the dorito. In all the frustration there were some funny moments like when everything was set up and as a joke Tate said “One more domino for good luck” and all of them fell down all we were doing was laughing and while I was laughing I made Tate fix it. We had to change a pretty good amount of our machine, like say two to three steps so it works. If you look down you will see the changes I made from the original.

(If you can’t the words, top one says “No track just more dominos” and bottom one says “No ramp, tube now”)

Rube Goldberg 3

Designing the Rube Goldberg machine was pretty fun. The process of what me and Tate did was that every Tuesday and thursday I would go up to his house we would work it was so hard to get the eight steps. I think that it was only really hard because we did not want to over use any item. We could not really like of much items that would fall under the category of old toys we used to play with and we used every one as much as possible without using it to much. Again the hardest part was to get eight or more steps but the second hardest part was to brainstorm materials that we could use that are not crazy.

To help us (my teacher) Mrs.Cooper gave the class this sheet that had all these links of cool Rube Goldberg machines. The most helpful one was definitely the Sprice one. It’s about this 19 year old boy who went on America’s Got Talent (TV show) and did this cool Rube Goldberg machine. Here is the link if you are interested:

Rube Goldberg 2

Working with Rube Goldberg machines you will learn about how me and Tate are doing together. Are we working good or bad is one question you might be asking? I think that we are working good because we always find time to get together and work. From example every tuesday and thursday I go over to his house and we work. I also think we work good together because we are friends and when we do Rube Goldberg that means we get to hang out so we try to do that a lot.

There were a lot of challenging parts but I think that planning was really hard. At first me and Tate were just throwing ideas out there and brainstorming but once we wrote it down and looked at it, it did not make sense at all. So we re did it and it was really hard to get eight steps which was the requirement but once we got eight steps we could not think of anything else. I think that by working together we have two times the brain power and we go to the same camp and we both did Rube Goldberg their so we have experience.

Rube Goldberg 1

This year in 5th grade Mrs.Cooper’s class is doing a project called the rube goldberg machine. A rube goldberg machine is a machine that is made to do a simple thing using chain reactions. Like say you can hit a ball that hits dominos that hits a car that goes down a ramp and it gets so much momentum that it hits a soccer ball into a net thats a rube goldberg machine.

You could work with a partner or by yourself. I worked with my friend Tate. We decided to work at his house because his house has more space there. In our rube goldberg machine we used materials like balls, a tube, some hot wheels cars and tracks, marbols a hockey puck and a dorito. There are a lot of decisions we had to make before the plan was done. We had to decide if we should use items that you find around the house or it could be toys that we used to play with or even whatever we want and we buy what we need. (We did the old toys one because it’s cool to use something that not everyone would think of like a race car or some car tracks. That’s about my experience with decision making.

4th Grade Reflection

In 4th grade I did many things. For example some projects that we did were colonial times, passion project, extreme weather project, toy theater and ecosystems project. My favorite one was the passion project because you get to pick any topic you want! The topic that I picked is Arctic Animals. I also loved the toy theater because it’s so fun to make the puppets and make the background.  We also did some great read aloud books. For example Book Scavenger and Blood on the River. Book Scavenger is a book about looking for Mr.Griswolds game. And Blood on the River is a book about what live was in colonial times. I really loved Blood on the River because it’s so interesting how the people were treated at that time and how people treated each other. Another read aloud that we did was The Tiger Rising. The Tiger Rising was about Rob the new kid at a new school that meets a girl name Siseten and they become friends.

In 4th grade had subjects like math, science, reading/writing and social studies. My favorite subject is math. This is because math fun when you get to work with a partner and when you to work in your math folder. I also really like math because of the feeling that you get when you get a really hard question.
