The Story of the Mages

Okay, so welcome! This is a made-up story, by me, about how mages, or in other words, magicians, came to exist. Enjoy!!!!     ~Adelina J.

“Clone, you do your homework?” The teacher says loudly. Curious heads turned to look at me. I hear a snicker behind my back and turn around, just to see my best friend Tessa and my other friend Seta doubled over laughing. Tessa whispers something to Seta, and I caught the words “dumb” and “stupid.”

“Well?” She demands. The students lean in for an answer. I can almost see the disapproving glare I would receive from my parents. Even my two “friends” has stopped laughing and was peering over my shoulder, searching my face for an answer.

“Uh… No Ms. Lucas….” I say, my words barely a whisper. I hear giggles all around me. Ms. Lucas has a smug smile stuck on her face. I lower my eyes down to my shoes, trying to avoid the look on the teacher’s face. I can feel a hand on my shoulder and look up to see Tessa. I shrugged her hand off.

“Oh my gosh, so rude!” Ms. Lucas babbles. “You should deserve detention for your bad behavior! So…. DETENTION!” The students gasps dramatically, then laughs. Every eye was closed. Every mouth open, laughing and jeering. I scramble out of my chair and scamper out of the room, out of the school and into the open world. I look at the island. It was once a beautiful place, with the sparkling clear water and sandy beach. Now this is the place of pure torture.

I sit by the shore that day, watching the waves rise, then fall, then did same again. I didn’t dare look behinds me as Tessa and Seta tapped my back. I feel hot tears as they dripped from my eyes and into the salty water. I don’t bother going home that night. The moon was dull, its brightness covered by the clouds. Finally, I dug my hands into the soft soil and considered going home, when I saw something orange in the sky, like a falling fireball. I sit there and close by eyes, embracing myself to be burned into nothing but dust flying through the thick, muggy air of my home.

That was when I got a closer look at the orange ball. It was a orange dragon, with shimmering golden orange scales, golden eyes, and a wingspan as long as the moon itself. I gaze into it’s deep golden eyes. It comes swirling lower and lower, then crashes on the ground. I run over to it, but it bares its teeth, showing fangs sharper than anything I have ever seen before. I stop in my tracks and stand there, like prey waiting for its predator. I crumple to the ground, and for the first time, I realize how helpless I am. Suddenly I felt a slight tugging sensation on the back of my shirt, then feel myself being lifted up into the air.
