Tech Blog Post 8 Laser Cutting

We have just begun our last week in tech, and we have been doing laser cutting. I have been cutting out my projects and I have done a banner, and I am doing a Ted Lasso “Believe” Sign. This has been a great quarter and I loved tech. These laser cutters have been so fun! A picture down below will show my laser cuts.

Tech Blog Post#6 flashlight

I have been making a flashlight from a blueprint to cutting wires and plastic. My flashlight is going well, as you can see from my pictures down below. I had to make a blueprint to scale first. That took awhile. Then, I cut my wires and made them to scale. After that, I did the same with my flashlight plastic pieces. From the picture above , you can see my progress.

Tech Blog Post #4 Finished Jewelry Piece

I just finished my piece! It took so long but it looks good. I am so excited to give it to my mom and I think she will love it. I am looking forward to our next project, even though it’s even more challenging then this one. I have already started it and am almost done with one switch. If you want to see a picture below of my jewelry piece, just look down below.

Tech Blog Post #3 Jewlery

I just finished my first ring! It was super challenging but I did it! I am going hot do another one and hope for a better one. Before we did the ring, I had to make a brainstorming sheet of all the ideas I will make for my mom. The tools are really difficult but you have to be smart. I wore safety googles yesterday. There is a picture of my ring and brainstorming sheet down below.

Tech Post #2

My first week or two have been awesome in tech. Tech is so much fun. I am looking forward to accomplish many things in tech this year, and I am excited to build and create. I am looking forward to using tools, and having fun with them, in the lessons we had, I loved the “scavenger hunt” It made you think, and was really cool with the clues. In day 1, like I said, I was excited to build and create, we made a cool project out of blocks, and took us a while because we couldn’t get one thing right and Mr Calvert didn’t tell us. The picture is down below. It is really cool that we get to make a review of the lessons and get credit, the classes are great! I’m so excited for this year.

Capstone Blog Post #3 – Austin

Capstone is a research project where you get information about your topic and you present, at the end of the year, a Wevideo, Tedtalk, or Ignite. All have to be 3 – 5 minutes long. In the process of all of this research work, we created an essay to help us with our scripts. Here is the link to my essays, draft one and two.

Also in the process of this assignment, we had one “main inquiry question” to answer. Mine was “How have the rules of basketball changed from the early 1900s to now and how have the changes improved the game?” Well, to answer that question, basketball rules changes a lot over time. Every rule that came into the game, (over 100) all affected the game in it’s own way. For example, the three point line was a big change because without a three point line, you did not need to shoot from far away. Another rule, the foul rule, was a big change because without a foul, there would be no scoring. Players would do whatever they want to keep the other team from scoring. Even if it was very physical. Today, people are still trying to make changes to the way that the game is played. 13 potential rule changes are being proposed ahead of the 2021 – 22 season!

This all proves that basketball has changed in many ways, all effecting the game, in it’s own way. If you want to see me present my video click the link below.

Capstone Interview Austin #2

The purpose of the interview is to give me more information about my topic. It is an easy way to get information. I interviewed former Syracuse player Steven Schneider. It is also really fun. I love interviews.

It was really easy to figure out who to interview because my topic is (how has basketball rules changed over time?) My interview, Steve, played basketball in college at Syracuse a long time ago, and he was my coach. So that was easy to find him, but it is tricky trying to find a date.

It was really fun to conduct the interview because you get to ask the questions, and you have control over it. I got a lot of information out of it and it is really helpful contributing to my project. Some of the information being : The athletes have become bigger, when he played there was no three point line which made it harder to score. A lot of scoring was made mid range. And he had a lot of injuries at Syracuse which was challenging, and he is still friends with most of the people he played with in college. You really have to learn how to manage your time. It did go as expected. I thought it would be really easy and fun. It was exactly as I thought.

My interviewee was very patient and was really helpful about the whole thing. For example, he was really patient when I was jotting down what he said. Overall, this was really fun and I would do it again!
