Science: Is it Alive?

For this lesson you will be moving around the classroom and completing the 6 stations at the tables. You will need to follow this blog post as your guide to compete each station. You will also be recording your findings on the doc: Is it alive? in your science folders. Please copy the chart and make a new doc with the title: Is it Alive Your Name and put in science folders.

Station One: MOVE

Directions:

  1. Watch worm video:
  2. Observe fortune fish
  3. Record your observations on the doc: Is it alive? in your Science Folders.

Station 2: GROW

Directions:

  1. Put Dinosaur in cup of water and leave
  2. Watch Seed video
  3. Observe the changes in the dinosaur
  4. Record your observations on doc: Is it alive? in your Science Folders.

Station 3: TAKING IN NUTRIENTS

Directions:

  1. Look at photo of plants taking in nutrients
  2. Look at photo of animals taking in nutrients
  3. Look at photo of sponge soaking up water
  4. Record your observations on doc: Is it alive? in your Science Folders.

 

 

Station 4: BREATHE

Directions:

  1. View video of Dog Panting
  2. Hold mirror close to your mouth and exhale – what happens to the mirror?
  3. Watch video of lit candle using air (breathing) to stay lit and what happens when the air is removed from the candle.
  4. Record your observations on doc: Is it alive? in your Science Folders.

Station 5: REPRODUCTION

Directions:

  1. View 1st minute of video of newborn puppies.
  2. Observe the ripped pieces of paper
  3. Record your observations on doc: Is it alive? in your Science Folders.

 

Station 6: ELIMINATE WASTE

Directions:

  1. Look at picture of dog eliminating waste.
  2. Look at Picture of car eliminating waste.
  3. Record your observations on doc: Is it alive? in your Science Folders.

 

 

Station 7: Death

Directions:

  1. Watch video of decaying plant matter.
  2. Watch video of dead fish.
  3. Watch video of dead car battery video.
  4. Record your observations on doc: Is it alive? in your Science Folders.
