Today I researched more on exoplanets and found the Trappist 1 system. It has 7 Earth-sized planets in it’s Solar System and 3 planets in it’s Goldilocks zone. I also made Slides on the Planets Kepler-186f, Gliese 667Cc, and Kepler-22b.

Passion Project Day #3
Today I researched more on why it’s important to discover exoplanets. I found out much more facts then I did yesterday by visiting one new site. I also made a slide called is it worthy to discover exoplanets? I put in all the information I researched today into that slide.
Passion Project Day #2
Today I continued to research on how to discover exoplanets. I found the method Transit Photometry. I had visited a couple different sites to figure out what it meant. I also researched on why exoplanets are important. In my slides, I also added some photos to let the reader understand better what I’m saying.
Passion Project on Exoplanets Day #1
In school everyone had the choice of doing a passion project. This is like a mini capstone. At first I didn’t know what to do so I thought I wasn’t going to do the passion project but then I decided to do it on Exoplanets because I’m interested into space. Exoplanets are planets outside of our solar system that orbit a star. Today for my research I focused on how do you discover Exoplanets? I surfed the web until I found a reliable resource to use. I understood the concept of Radial velocity easily but what confused me was Micro lensing. It was confusing because the word ‘light’ appeared so many times and I couldn’t picture it in my head until I read it many times, then I finally understood how it worked.

Constitution projects
This project is a project where you rolled two dice for one to get your topic and one on what type of project it was. This project taught me a lot about the Articles Of Confederation. Not everyone had to do a project of Articles of Confederation, but I just got it. Everyone had to get something that associated with the Constitution Era which we are learning about in school. We had to roll a dice to get your topic. It was very surprising to roll the dice, I didn’t know what I really wanted. I got documents after my roll. I thought I wasn’t that good with documents but I stuck with it. We each had a topic to pick in our groups and I chose The Articles Of Confederation. We rolled the dice again to figure out what project type we had. I rolled and got Explain Everything. At first I thought that meant we had to write like pages of writing to Explain on our topic, but what it actually was, was totally different. Explain Everything also as EE is an app on the iPads that is like Google Slides but you can make a small presentation with it.There were some difficulties working with EE at first we had issues with accounts, then I had issues with the slides that you couldn’t move the slides into a different order. Another issue was that you couldn’t bring the iPads home to work on it. Even though there are these issues I can work my way through it. I think when I am done with it, it will be a good small presentation.
Savvy
Do you whish you could have a superpower? If you do then read the book Savvy. In the book Savvy, Mibs is turning thirteen and she is going to unlock her Savvy. In the book the Savvy is their special superpower some have it and some don’t. When Mibs turns thirteen things don’t go the right way. Overall I think this is a grate book, and it will entice you to read the next book in the series. I hope you read it!
Before Our 2nd Luanch
After our 1st launch was amazing but we decided to make some changes. We decided to make changes to the nose cone. For our nose cone we thought there was some air resistance that could have made our rocket go slower but instead we made our nose cone smaller and put glue and duct tape under to stop it. The other changes we made were, we were much more careful with our duct tape so that there were no air pockets in it. Those are our changes to our rocket I hope it works well! and tomorrow we will launch our rocket.
Home Of The Brave
Home of The Brave
Gol is a cow, but Katherine Applegate (author of Home of The Brave) also uses her as a symbol. How does Gol represent Kek’s past, present, and possibly his future?
Gol represents Kek’s past because he used to herd cattle. For Kek his family left and he feels like he’s leaving his old life and losing his memories. Gol sort of represents a piece of Kek’s old life.
Kek is similar to Gol in his present, because both of them are going into a new life. If Kek loses Gol, it is like losing his last big piece of his old life. Kek loves Gol. Kek is also a piece of Gol’s life.
Gol is a piece of Kek’s future because it makes him happy. It makes them both go into their new life with a good piece of memory.
Launch #1
Today October 23 2017 we launched our rockets and there were 5 groups in total. This was a very exciting experience in 5th grade for us. I never knew just with our group we would make a rocket that actually would fly very high.
We created our water bottle rocket with a bottle, duct tape, hot glue, a 3D printed nose cone, and balsa wood for fins. We used the bottle as the base, and then hot glued the balsa wood with duct tape on. After that we put some decorative duct tape on to make it look nice. After a few days we printed our nose cone and hot glued it on. When I saw the rocket I felt proud of myself and my group.
We each had jobs inside our groups and also outside our group. Each group helped another group for jobs. Doing this was very exciting, each of us had to help another group, some of us were clinometer readers and some were data recorders.
For our launch we went to the back of heathcote which is the field. The Blasting Rockets got to go first, The Rocketeers went second, L.A.S.A. went third, we went next, and last of all J.E.X.L. I was very surprised when we launched our rocket, It went really high and it was very intriguing.
When we got back we started doing data analysis. We found the height in meters for how high our rockets went. According to the data, today in rocketry J.E.X.L launched the highest rocket at 57.5m high and Blasting Rockets launched the lowest at around 20m high. The height difference between the two were 37.5m. My group Science Minds with me, Mia, Om, and samantha, launched the second highest; our rocket launched at about 51m high.
When we revised I thought about how we could improve our rocket. I saw other groups rockets and saw that some were longer, some were bigger in width, and some were smaller in width. I wondered what could we do to improve it. Our group talked, when we were talking we realized that at the nose cone there could have been some air resistance. Me and Om thought that making our nose cone smaller, so it could fit right into the rocket and stop the air resistance. We haven’t decided which way we should use it yet, but Mia and Samantha want to stop the air resistance by just putting hot glue under it. I wonder if me and Om’s plan will actually work and I wonder if we make our rocket skinnier if it will go faster up.
