Rube Goldbreg #4

Testing our design was so annoying!! Especially when we tested small parts of it at a time but it just doesn’t work when we put it all together. Most of the time when we failed on it, we were putting the dominos back up, we accidentally knocked them over and the hole thing worked!! We got to take 50 and We were getting pretty angry. But we tried to push through it. One of are ideas was to cut a string, how would we do that? So we thought and someone said, “we can get a knife to come swing Down and cut the string.” Then we came up with the idea of using a flamethrower. We knew that wasn’t happening.

Towards the end we realized we were having trouble with having the dominos turning. So we took a picture and we saw if it worked or not, if it worked, we would try our best to replicate it. I think that was really smart for us to do this because before we were kind of just guessing on where they went and that is why it wasn’t working. We also had a ball falling down a hoop, that ball would roll and hit some blocks but the ball would sometimes roll anywhere, so we just had it right when it came down it hit the blocks. Also when a ball rolled down a pvc pipe but we called it (a Didgeridoo), the ball had to much speed to hit dominos so we had it hit a golf ball. After so many tries and so many little tweaks we finally got it!

Rube Goldberg #3

Working with Noah so far was awesome! We were able to agree on the goal on scoring the ball into the goal, and how we would start it. But we have been having some problems being on the same page. Like with the car, I thought we agreed on not using it, but he said that we were using the car so i got really confused. I thought that we replaced the cars with some building blocks. But he then said were using both. I like that we were working together because other than than that, we have a lot of the same ideas. We are also building our Rube Goldberg as much as we could. It’s really hard for us to get stuff done because we have practically opposite schedules. So we only have pretty much 1 day a week sometimes. And when we are doing it, we get distracted. But we are still getting our work done,(slowly). Rube Goldberg is so far the best unit.

Rube Goldberg#2

Designing the Rube Goldberg was very difficult because we didn’t know if some parts of our ideas will work. So, Noah and I were kind of testing a bunch of different things as we went. Like When we had a ball sitting on top if the hoop and then have it fall down to hit some pins. We had to find the right ball with enough force and be able to stay on the hoop. We tried tennis balls, lacrosse balls, but we finally came across the right one. The ball we used was was heavy and kind of big. We tested it, and it worked, but, that was with Noah holding it and then letting it go. We need to find out how we can have it stay there without us touching it.  Me and Noah both have sisters that already did the Rube Goldberg so they had experience so they gave us a few pointers in like where we should put something and stuff like that. We also watched a video of someone on AGT (America’s Got Talent) doing a Rube Goldberg. His Rube Goldberg was to score a soccer goal. So was are’s! His had so many steps and it was so complicated. Our parents also helped, they told us to start at a high point so we can get some speed.

Rube Goldberg #1

I decided for this Rube Goldberg project to work with a partner. I chose to work with Noah. We decided to work at his house because he had more space to work. Our simple task was to score a soccer goal. We had to make decisions on where we would have the ball hit some pins and where it would have enough for to knock the set of pins down. And how we could get a little ball to hit domino’s without the ball rolling away.

For our Rube Goldberg the materials we used were, race car track, 2 small balls, a car, some blocks, funnell, 2 PVC pipes with a connector, a flexible drain pipe, Janga block’s a domino’s, a medium ball, a basketball hoop, bowling pins, books, a mini soccer ball and net. Our goal is to get the mini soccer goal into the net. So  we chose the blocks to hit a ball into a small goal so it would have a lot of power going into the goal. Designing the Rube Goldberg was very, very hard

plant observations #3

For my controlled plant after we pollinated it, flowers actually started blooming! But what we did to pollinate was to take our finger Dab it on the flower and then dab our finger on the other flower and just go back and forth dabing. The height is 5 inches! Now the stem is purpleish green. The flower is yellow. For some reason there is only 5 leaves. And there is 11 pods.

The manipulated plant is dead.

I think the control will stay at 5 in. and however it is right now because it’s been like that for a while.

this my manipulated before we threw it out.

this is my controlled

Plant observations #2

From the past two weeks for the controlled, the plants were about two to three inches high. The amount of leaves was some crazy amount like 36! We might not be exact but somewhere near there. It’s hard to count leaves. There was also a stem turning purple. But now the controlled is three inches exact! There was 40 leaves. this was a big improvement. Now the stem is fully purple. The direction the plant is going is towards the sunlight. I think why that is happening because the plant wants natural light other than artificial light.the change since the start was huge for the controlled. It started out really slow and it was three  fourths for ever.

I keep thinking why the controlled plant stem is purple.

The last two weeks for the manipulated not much happened. The plant is getting bigger and smaller. The stem was still very purple. It’s super strange why that is happening. The manipulated’s height is one half of an inch or one quarter of an inch. The direction is just sitting straight up but it looks a little dead. the color is purple ish green. The change since start is not a big gap, the plant obviously not that big. I wonder why the plant is growing and then shrinking. I wonder if it’s the sugar water.

Science Observations #1

In class we have been doing plants! We got to choose groups. My group is two girls and two boys. Our experiment is instead of water we did sugar water. My question is will sugar water grow more leaves on the plant than regular water? My hypothesis is that the sugar water will grow more leaves. We have a manipulated and controlled plant. In my controlled it got light, water, seeds, fertilizer, and soil. For my manipulated I just changed the water.

In the first week nothing happened for the manipulated but for the controlled there was a little seedling coming out. But now the manipulated has a purple stem. We do not know why. For the controlled there is 24 leaves. The color for the manipulated is purple and green. The size for the controlled is 2/4 of an inch high. The Manipulated was much smaller than the controlled. The Amount of leaves on the controlled is 24 and the leaves on the manipulated has 4 leaves. Also the controlled is about 2 times taller than the manipulated. The purple stem is really bothering me. I keep thinking, Why is that? These are pictures of my groups plants on Monday, May 8 2017.

Maglev Reflection/ Day 1

We have been learning about Maglev trains. We worked in groups. My group had a hard time figuring out witch idea we should try first. It was helpful to be in a group because there was more ideas to go around. We did two ideas each, then we eliminated one from each of ours. Then we decided what would work best. We used mine and tweaked it a little but we failed. The idea that failed was ring magnets on one side and strip on the other.I don’t  exactly know what was wrong.

Maglev Day two

On day two my group tried another idea. I don’t really remember what the track was, but I do know what the train was. It was strip magnets and disk magnets. but then it was all strip, same with the track.(manila folder.) And It worked!!!! Here is a picture of us in action.
