Rocketry Unit Reflection

At the start if this rocketry unit, I was nervous because I knew nothing about rockets. But as my group got further into the unit, I became more confident in my work. My group has gotten into many arguments about how to design and build our rocket. We did not work well together at first. I was so worried that my group would get no work done if we kept on disagreeing with each other. But to my surprise, we all of a sudden started to agree with each other. Turns out that if we just respect each other and let everyone have a say in what we are doing, then there would be no problem at all. Throughout the whole unit, I learned so much.

I think that the easiest part of this rocketry unit was to launch our rockets. While my group was launching our rockets, we didn’t know what to expect. High? Low? I had no clue. That was, until I saw the performance of my group’s rocket. In fact, it wasn’t high, or low. I didn’t even know how high it went. Only the clinometer readers knew how high it went. When I asked one out of the four clinometer readers how high my rocket went, she said it launched 29.5 meters into the air. That surprised me. Since I never experienced launching rockets, I didn’t know if that was good or bad. And I didn’t want to know. But when I finally found out, I realized that my rocket placed 4th out of five rockets. It was hard to get over with. My group was disappointed but we were determined to do better the next time. But besides that, it was easy to place the rocket on the launcher, countdown from ten to zero, and press a button to launch the rocket off the launcher.

I think that the hardest part of this rocketry unit was to design our rockets. It was difficult because my group argued a lot. And when I say a lot, I mean a lot. We argued about the fins, the nose cone, the body, and much more. I didn’t know how my group could compromise at all. We argued almost everyday. Sometimes, the level of our voices would go over the limit. It was not a good experience.

Despite all of the obstacles my group had been through, we still had a great time working together. We turned from an arguing group, to a well collaborating group. It was a wonderful experience. I will never forget this rocketry unit.

Passion Project Reflection 1

I wanted to study about cooking. In class, I was brainstorming about what I was passionate about and then cooking popped into my head. So I thought about it and finally I decided to learn about cooking.

During free time at school and at home I started to think about what I should study specifically. So I tried narrowing down my idea from cooking to the idea of meals and snacks. After I knew that I couldn’t narrow my topic down anymore, I ended up with meals and snacks as my topic to research about.

Then, I started to come up with some questions about meals and snacks. I was brainstorming about what I really wanted to know the answer of about meals and snacks and I came up with many questions! This was pretty easy because I wanted to study a lot about cooking and more specifically, I wanted to know a lot of answers to many questions I had about cooking.

After coming up with some questions, I started my research. Research was a little bit hard for me because we had to take notes based on text structure. Research was also a little bit hard because I got A TON of information! I kept going back to the same websites and I still got tons and tons of information! Sometimes it can be really hard to keep all of the information you got from websites.

When I finished my research the hard part was over. But still, the “do” part was here and the “do” part would probably not be that easy either. I was happy that I got a lot of information, but when I was recording the information, I was not very happy. I was in fact working very very  hard on my research.

Information Book – Dolphins

I have been working on my information book for along time. I really put a lot of effort into finishing it. These are some things I did in my information book: animations, pictures, captions and a lot of writing. My class has been also working on linking back to the table of contents and linking to chapters one by one. I think it was really a lot of hard work to get to the very end and you realize it feels great when you get to the end. To put the effort in and to finish was everything I dreamt would happen by the time we had the grade share. My teacher helped us on things we didn’t know yet and things we missed for editing. I really enjoyed working on my information book. It was a great experience for me! I hope you enjoy my information book!
