Essay for Ranger in Time Escape from the Great Earthquake by Kate Messener

I read a book called Ranger in Time Escape from the Great Earthquake by Kate Messner. I think the theme is it’s special for people to find something or someone that reminds you of people and animals that are no longer with you. In the book, there is a dog named Ranger and he time travels to save people also, there is a girl named Lily.

On page 18 there is an earthquake a fish named Gum Gum who is gold dies and Lily owns and she is sitting in a room next to the dead fish crying. Then Ranger who is gold like Gum Gum comes to save Lily from the earthquake.

On page 32 Lily wants to help her friend May find her brother Lee that is lost in the fires and her parents went off to find a cart because her mother can’t walk through the mess of the earthquake.

On pages 40 and 41 they find May’s brother Lee under a bookshelf, while Lily and May are holding the bookshelf up Ranger saves Lee. But Lee is really sick and hurt.

On page 81 Lily finds a bird and whistles to try to make it sing but it cannot sing. The bird reminds her of Gum Gum with golden scales and the eyes burned. Right after she found the bird everything started to get better Lily finds Lee and May’s parents, Lee got better, and the bird learned to sing.

That is why I think it’s special for people to find something or someone that reminds you of people and animals that are no longer with you. I liked this book because it was very interesting.

Colonial America

In the passage Colonial America it explains about living in Colonial America. Tribes traded with other tribes. People were slaves. They came because they were hoping to get rich, after hearing stories from the Spanish explorers finding gold in South America, but the harsh environment of the New World nearly killed them. People who live in Colonial America were a diverse group with different perspectives, ideals, and values really not so different from us today.
