Fox Meadow 4th grade paddling trip!

On monday June 12 the fourth graders in Mrs. Assatly’s class went to the pool. We met coach S.W. there to learn about kayaking. We got partners and went to a boat. There were white water freestyle boats, white water boats, recreational kayaks, a touring kayak and even a stand up paddle board. At the end we had a 30 minute free swim. In the recreational kayaks you could even capsize. We learned that capsizing is really called a wet exit. You have to roll the boat yourself to capsize though. Then you have to flip the boat right side up. Tell me by commenting if you like kayaking or if you don’t. Bye!

  1. Carly!
This is my favorite trip of fourth grade (although St. Paul’s is extremely fun, too!). You were amazing in the kayak! I can tell you have done this before. I love how you added a photo. I wonder how many times you will kayak at camp! You should add another blog when you get home and some photos, too.
    Enjoy your summer!
    Love,

  2. Dear Carly
I’m in fourth grade but I just became a fourth grader and It’s only fall. I can not wait to go kayaking with my friends. Where did you go? It must be fun! I love to swim but I’ve never kayaked before and I would love to try something new!was that your first time kayaking? Was it hard to steer the paddle? It must be , trying to get all that water out of the way to move. I hope you had fun reading.

We went to the scarsdale pool. It was not my first time kayaking but if it’s your first time don’t worry. You get lots of practice. It was a little hard to steer because certain strokes make the boat go in all different directions and also the paddle moves the water out of the way. It’s one of the best trips ever.
