How it is Made

Skateboard Wheels come in different sizes, hardness, colors, and graphical designs.

How to make wheels:

It starts out as a one piece structure with a pin in the center to form a bearing cavity. Then a nozzle dispenses freshly mixed polyurethane liquid  into the wheel molds. The liquid begins to become solid. Next a worker will load the molds into an oven and bakes them at 240 degrees Fahrenheit for 40 minuets. Workers then remove the pins from the molds  and the mold go to the next station. At the next station workers blast compressed air between the wheels and the molds to pry the wheels free and pop them out. Next a worker probes the wheel using  the durometer gauge to insure the urethane has  cured to the right degree of hardness if the whee is sufficiently hard the batch is ready. Then the worked clamps the skate board  wheel in the lathe. The lathe spins the wheel while an automatic cutter contours the edges to make it clean. Then they design the wheel with patterns, colors, and or shapes.

Technology Post #5

This week we learned about adhesives. Adhesives are used to stick things together. Adhesive are made of polymers or resins.

Types of Adhesives

1) Pressure Sensitive- they don’t need solvent, water or heat to stick.

(ex- tape)

2) Polymer- great for bonding with wood and also food packaging, and the autonomic industry.

(ex-super glue)

3)Dextrin-a thin glue made from starch to hold the pages of books

4) Polyvinyl Acetate/ PVA – the white glue we use in classrooms

5) Reactive- used to bond cell phones and computers

6) Solvent-based- a liquid combined with polymerase that is found in post it notes

Thank you, Caterina 🙂

Today we worked on the project details. For my project I am going to make a tiny house.
I will have 2 floors and they will both be 5 by 8 inches.
the roof will be made up of 4 peices of wood. Two planks which will be 8 by 8 and two triangles. I will use approximately 4 peices of wood. I can’t wait to advance into this project this is so exciting!

Thank you , Caterina 🙂

Wood Joinery

Today we learned about different types of wood joinery. wood joinery is used to combine two pieces of wood. There are basic joineries and more advanced joineries.
Types of Wood Joinery:

we are learning wood joinery for our project with wood. I like learning about these different joints because I think that it is interesting that there are so many ways to join wood together.I can’t wait for this project!

Thank you, Caterina 🙂

Technology post #2

This week in class we are learning about the tools we use with wood. We are also learning about how to be safe when using these tools.  Unfortunately because I am all virtual I am not able to physically hold these materials but it is still fun learning all the interesting things about them!

Two examples or the tools we are learning are the mini saw and the slice precision cutter.

Above is a picture of the mini saw it is used for cutting across the wood grain.

Above is a picture of the slice precision cutter. It is used for scoring and scraping the wood. To use it you take of the cap and ‘draw’ a line in the wood. Then you use your hands to break apart the wood where the line is.
*note= the slice precision cutter is to cut straight lines

We also learned how to hand these tools to our classmates and you  in a safe way.

Thank you, caterina 🙂

Technology post #1

Hi. In this post I am gonna compare the 3 videos I watched? I will only be comparing 2 of them though.

The first video I watched was An Aerial Journey Through the Sawmill. This video was very interesting because it showed how trees turned into wood planks. The next video was Start to Finish Logging now this video was a bit different  becuase  the second video was just them cutting down the trees when the other videdo was about the whole factory process. In my opinion I thought the first video was more interesting.
It was really fun watching these videos and I gained a lot of knowledge. I never thought of wood to be interesting.

Thank you,     Caterina 🙂

LTC (challenges)

Computer Technology blog #5

In playgrounds I am in the Function section

One of the challenges was to figure out how to make a right turn using only let commands. I figured out that you can turn right by turning left 3 times.

This was kinda fun to figure out because i had to think.

————————————————————————————————————
these are the commands I used:

moveForward()

moveForward()

moveForward()

turnLeft()

turnLeft()

turnLeft()

moveForward()

moveForward()

moveForward()

collectGem()

This is a picture of the challenge

Learn to Code: Commands

Computer Technology blog #4

This is what I am working on right now:

here are the commands:

moveForward()

moveForward()

moveForward()

turnLeft()

moveForward()

moveForward()

toggleSwitch()

moveForward()

moveForward()

turnLeft()

moveForward()

moveForward()

collectGem()

I also attempted to draw the commands on sketchbook

Music Video

Computer Technology blog #3

We finished another project called “ Music video” . In this project we created a music video. I thought this was so fun. I coded my backgrounds to change every second, and my sprites to changes costumes, to make it look like they were dancing.

this is a picture of what it looks like:

Code Stars

Computer Technology blog #3

Today we watched a video about coding. The video shared the love of coding and described it in a beautiful way. It said that it makes you feel good. This video inspires me to love and try my hardest to learn code.

The most surprising part of the video was how many people don’t know what code is. I am very lucky to be learning code in my school.

bellow is the video if you want to watch it. 🙂
