Final tech post

This past quarter I have learned many things, especially on how easy i can hurt myself. My favorite project has been the jewelry unit, i also love playing with the hot glue. This quarter was a lot of fun and my favorite. Throughout the quarter we did my project we made our own laser cuts from scratch, we made our own jewelry pieces for someone using the soldering iron, and we made our own flashlights for the soccer team that was stuck in the tunnel/cave and it had to be waterproof. I learned how to do so much this quarter!

Tech week 8

This week, we learned about flashlights, and started making them. First, we learned the story of why we have to make flashlights. There is a group of kids and a coach on a soccer team, who decide to explore a tunnel after soccer practice. The water rises behind them, blocking the entrance to the tunnel. None of them know how to swim. So they went deeper into the tunnel, where there is no light. They stayed there for days. Eventually, people found them, but since they couldn’t swim, they couldn’t get out. Professional divers went and brought them food, but they couldn’t figure out how to get the boys out of the tunnel. They ended up figuring it out, and they got the boys out. Our task is to make a waterproof flashlight that can fit in a small box, for the soccer team.

Week 7

During week 7 we continues to work on the switch project and so far it is going great. I am now staring to get how to properly get a good result in the scroll saw and i am almost done with the project. We had to make 3 switches my first one is almost like a light switch it haw a on and off button. My second switch is like a Starbucks cup and to get it to work you have to move the lid and so far I don’t really know what i am going to do for my third switch.

Blog post 6

This week we worked on designing our switches and making them. The hardest part of the project was having to design and get the cardboard pieces to fit right and go in the right spot. So far the project is really fun and the project is going really well.

Week 5

This week we finished making our pendents and then soldered them. First, we made a frame. Then we added a design in the middle. We started to solder but then the metal wouldn’t solder nicely. We then switched our medal and had to redo the design. In the end it looked really cool and the project was really fun.

Week 4.

This week we started to design our pendant for someone we want to gift it to. We’re started off by interviewing the person we want to make the pendant for, and then we came up with many designs for them. We then chose a design and created our outline for our pendant with the 3 different plyers.

Tech Blog Post #3

During week three we started working on making our own designs on the laser cutter. We learnt how to properly use the pen tool in Vectornator and how not to use the pencil or paintbrush tool. Today we are printing our designs with the laser cutter. To make our designs first you had to shoes something to draw then you draw it on a graph paper next you trace it on Vectornator and then get it printed. At first it was hard but now it is easy to use.

Tech Post #2

During week two we learned about Atoms. I learnt that negatives don’t touch negatives and positives don’t touch positives. We also learnt about the periodic table, i know that there are 118 elements in the periodic table and each and every one is different from the other. We learnt about CNC and how it speeds up the process of making cars, etc. The invention of CNC has also led to loss of jobs but now because of CNC things have become more efficient . For example when you are making a car by hand one mistake can ruin the whole car, but when a CNC makes it each one is the same as the last.

Tech Post 1

Week 1

This week we learned about the safety rules, there are many ways to injure yourself in the room but if we use them responsibly there is less of a chance to get hurt. Some of the safety rules are, 1. Think before you set 2. Dress responsibly and keep your hair tied back 3. Don’t assume you know training before tools 4. Power tools need concentration and no talking when using machinery 5. Protect your eyes, always wear safety goggles, Ect. Overall these lessons have helped me understand the safety in the tech room.During week one we also leant about atoms, that day helped me understand the size of things more and how some things in space work too.

Final Capstone Blog post – Pro Tennis

Tennis is a sport played and loved worldwide. About 87 million people play and have dedicated their careers to tennis. This caused me to  wonder what  tennis players have to go through to become professional players.

Because Tennis is played worldwide that makes it harder to research I had to read many articles and websites  while having an interview with former pro tennis player  Melissa Subin also known as Melissa Brown.

There are many professional tennis players who have a journey to share about their professional tennis career including Melissa Subin. While interviewing Melissa  who played professional tennis when she was a teenager she told me about her journey of playing professional tennis. She said that “playing professional tennis is not an easy journey. When you watch the U.S open you think it is great, but the people playing on the court had left a lot behind to be there. Being different was not always so easy”  But there are also good things about professional tennis such as being on TV, and getting to travel to places you have never been before like France when she was going to the French Open. Tennis took her to most countries and most states.

The first step of becoming a professional tennis player is making sure you are good enough, For example you have to win tournaments and get ranked. Sometimes people are not good enough to become professorial and have to practice more and will see if they have improved later on, and sometimes they just don’t want to leave their family and friends behind and will play ameture tennis instead. People probably think that tennis is not going to be fun to play because you have to make sacrifices but you don’t have to professionally you can be an ameture tennis player instead. The difference between a professional and ameture tennis player is  that a professional tennis player dedicates most of their time, and effort to tennis it is how they make their living and they get paid to play, on the other hand an ameture tennis player does not typically dedicate all of their time to tennis and usually just plays for fun it is not how they make their living and they do not get paid to play. So if you want to play tennis but do not want to leave behind  anything then playing amature tennis is a great choice for you.

Another important step to becoming a professional tennis player is, trying to get to the U.S open and start to make a living off of winning professional tournaments. But there will always be challenges to get close to that. The biggest challenges of becoming a professional tennis player is having to leave behind some friends and some family. Leaving many things behind may be sad but you can also follow your dreams and play tennis. I asked Melissa Subin who her role models were she said that her parents were her #1 supporters, and they were her motivation to keep on playing even in the rough times. The people who love you will always support you.
