Technology #3

This past week we started cutting wood for our boxes. I cut my top a bottom wood pieces. I used a saw to cut my wood.  I also used a small piece of wood called a bumper for the clamper to be on top of it, to hold down the bumper. The purpose of the bumper is to not make marks on the piece the wood that you are cutting. I thought it was easy cutting the wood.

This week was the second week of tech. The first couple of days we used the 3D printer. We used TinkerCad to design our names and printed them. This was one of the first times I’ve used a 3D printer and  it was a great experience. After using the 3D printers, we started working on our wood boxes. We first designed them on graph paper. after break we are going to start gluing the wood pieces together and we will be able to see the box coming together. We also used the hand planers for the first time this week. There are to types of hand planer, a small one and a bigger one. The bigger hand planer was easier to use because it had more handles and it was easier to grip.

Yesterday in technology we were practicing with screws. It was easier to take then screw out of the piece of wood, then putting it in. The bigger screws were easier than the little ones. I didn’t use different type of wood, only one type. I discovered that screwing screws into a piece of wood is harder than I thought. In the picture below, are a couple of different types of screws, a screw driver, and a piece of wood.

The past week we worked on making boxes that had something in it that made the object on the top (that you could see) move up and down, or twist around. I decided that I was going to make a bunny with a carrot in its hands going up and down. The materials I used were: cardboard, pennies, wood sticks and part of a paper straw. I liked this project a lot and I would like to do something like this again in the future.

Today Mr. Calvert is out so we are watching a video about automata. It is about a guy that makes something similar to what we are going to be making in the next week. His voice is kind of boring, but his design are very cool. They are also very complex. I would never be able to make something like one of his ideas.

In technology we are going to start making these boxes that you can turn a handle and while you are turning the handle something is moving inside the box. For my design I was thinking that I would make a bunny holding a carrot coming out of a box. I am going to be using cardboard, sharpie paint pens, and other materials. I hope it turns out well!

I finished my flashlight, as you know, I decorated it with sharpie paint pens. I used the pink, silver, blue, black, adn white. I added pom pom balls and gems on my flashlight. I like using the solder and designing it.

Bye for now!

One of the tools I used building my flashlight was a saw. I will explain how you use the saw. First you put in your PVC pipe on the red base and secure the black oval things (I don’t know what they are called). Once you have everything set you begin to cut your PVC pipes. That’s the step for that saw thing.

During technology this couple weeks we were focused on building our own flashlights. We were able to solder wires, batteries, and switches. I made my flashlight out of PVC pipes, red and black wires, and a LED light. I think this project was very fun and I would like to do something similar to this in the future.

Hi, we have been working on switches made out of cardboard and other materials such as straws, rubber bands and tin foil. The tin foil has to touch tin foil in order to make the switch work. You also need to make wires touch each tin foil, then you connect the wires to a l-e-d light and you have a switch that works.

Bye.
