Rocketry Blog Post #3

When we first started discussing what we what would change, we initially wanted to change so many things, for example the body, fins, and the nose cone. But then my teacher said to my group that we could only change one thing. “Ok” I say disappointed. I wanted to change more than one thing. We discussed that we wanted to change the fat and stubby fin to a skinny and tall fin which would weigh less. In my first blog post, I wrote about how important it is to have a low weight for a rocket.

When we started building rocket 2, since we already knew what to do from rocket 1 we started off really well. First we took the skinny tube and rolled the paper around it. Then we took the fin template and did a skinny and tall fin. Then we got our nose and made it straight this time. We worked really well together. I was praying that our rocket would win.

What went well was building our rocket. Our communication also helped. Communication is really important because if you don’t talk then you can’t make suggestions. We thought everything was perfect this time. The body was perfect, the fins were perfect, and the nose cone was perfect.

Similar to the first rocket building, our group also handled the disagreements really well this time because we compromised. This worked because instead of arguing and screaming at each other we compromised and stayed calm. I have high hopes for the next rocket launch.

Rocketry Blog Post #2

What stood out about our launch is that it swerved side to side the whole way up and every other group their rocket went straight up. This happened because our nose cone was completely tilted. I knew this was a problem but my group did not listen to me. My job for the 1st rocket launch was countdown master. I really this job because I love screaming. I was also really nervous because as soon as I said release I was thinking is our rocket going to succeed or fail. As soon as I said release I looked up and saw our rocket and go so high but it was swerving back and forth. I knew it was a problem but I did not care because it went so high. When I klonominated it was a bad experience because I klonominated the group got 5 meters. I hope for launch 2 I klonominate a groups rocket that goes really high.

I thought our rocket was one of the best but when we converted it to feet we realized we got 4th and fell short of the winner by 74 feet. I was upset but it made me determined to win the next launch. Because the group that won had skinny and tall fins we decided we wanted to change our fins to that. Originally we had stubby and fat fins. We thought this was a really good idea because if it is taller and skinnier it adds less weight.

During the launch we spoke really respectively. We were not screaming at eachother we were not saying bad things about each other. When we were graphing we were surprised it only went 118 feet. We were sad we only got 4th but we knew for the next launch we would get at least 120. Well that is our goal. The graphing was really fun. Overall rocket launch 1 was really fun.

Building Our Colony

Life in the colony is really good so far because we just finished building our colony. This is how it went. First we made the houses, and we made them out of cardboard. Then we planted all of the seeds in the farm. Then we turned the brown cardboard into black, brown, and red. It took a very long time but we managed it, and everyone in the colony was very happy because they would not freeze outside, and they would have somewhere  to sleep.

Kindness Means

What kindness means to me is you are caring for someone. For instance if someone hurt themselves you go to them and ask are you ok. Another example of kindness is if someone is behind you you hold the door for them. One time when someone was kind to me was when I got a bee sting my sister gave me a stuffed animal to make me feel better. One time when I was kind to someone was when a friend at school was getting bullied I stood up for him. This proves that kindness means you are caring for someone.

Once I read the series Harry Potter and the books are full of positive kindness, but there is some negative kindness. One positive kindness is Harry, Ron, and Hermione are all very nice to each other. One example is in The Sorcerer’s Stone when Harry was about to get the sorcerer’s stone Hermione said you are a great wizard Harry and Harry said back you are better. Another example is in The Chamber Of Secrets Ron rescued Harry from his aunt and uncle’s house. This proves that the series Harry Potter is full of positive kindness.

Stargirl

What i’m thinking about stargirl is she is there to lift the towns spirit. For example at the football game when stargirl standed out everyone started coming to the game, even the cheerleading practices. Another example is going door to door giving out presents. This shows that stargirl is there to lift the towns spirits.

Colonial America – pt 2 – Persona

My name is Alexander James Smith and for my colony I am the leader fishing, trading, whaling, and ship building. My backstory is I have 5 siblings 4 older brothers and 1 younger sister. My mom died when I was 3 giving birth to youngest sister, and my dad died when I was seven because he had small pox. My oldest brother took care of the rest of us because he was 20 years old. Then when I turned 15 only my oldest brother and I were alive and we wanted to start a new life so we went to America. There I got hired to be the leader of fishing, trading, whaling, and ship building. My oldest brother died when I was 23. I also helped build houses because I had experience with tools. Lastly I got a lot of money because I worked really hard so I got a lot of water and food so I lived a happy life.

Colonial America – pt 1 – Overveiw

In class, we are doing a project on colonial america. We had to choose a region to go in and I chose New England. After we picked our groups we did a charter and named our colony. We named our colony Rock Wood. Then a few days later we chose jobs. I have a lot of jobs. My jobs are whaling system leader, trading system leader, fishing system leader, and ship building leader. Also we are doing this on our own because our teacher she said she was not going to help us because she wanted us to do it on our own , but sometimes our teacher is going throw disasters at us like natives, hurricanes, and floods (etc). This is we have learned in colonial america so far.
