Fantasy blog post #2 – Writing Paragraphs

In our Fantasy unit we have to write one paragraph for every book that we read. We have to right about a main character changing in the book.

I like writing paragraphs in this format because they are about something I wanted to read about, and the examples I will need will be fresh in my head.

Here is my first paragraph about the trials of Apollo.

Throughout the story Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan a main character Meg has to decide for herself to do what is right, or what is easy. At the beginning of the story Meg makes bad decisions because she is scared of the consequences of doing the right thing. But throughout the story Meg begins to change, she starts making good choices for the common good, though she knows the consequences. Meg comes from a complex background where her evil stepfather Nero wants to lure her into his evil doings. Meg knows what Nero is doing is not right but she knows that Nero will give her harsh punishments if she does not obey. This leaves Meg with a difficult choice throughout the story. In the beginning of the book Meg brings Apollo right into Nero’s trap. Meg was scared of Nero, she did the easy thing to do, she did Nero’s bidding so she wouldn’t get punished. But by making the bad decision, she put thousands of other people’s lives in danger. Towards the end of the story Meg befriends Apollo and Meg begins to make decisions based on her own judgement regardless of Nero’s punishments. Later on in the story Meg runs away from Nero and helps Apollo on his quest. Meg knows that Apollo would not make it far without her help. By helping Apollo, Meg risks everything. Nero will be furious and may torture Meg when she returns, but Meg is not thinking about what is best for her, Meg is thinking about what is best for others. Throughout the story Meg changes from doing what is wrong but easy, to doing what is right, but at times can be difficult.

I am really liking this fantasy unit, I hope that we do more of these kinds of projects.

Fantasy Reading #1

My English teacher has assigned us a new project! We have to read four fantasy books and right a paragraph about each one in four weeks. When he told us that we were reading fantasy I got very exited. Fantasy is by far my favorite genre. I love how fantasy gives you things to visualize in your mind, and how they introduce you to magical ideas.

My two favorite series are fantasy. They are Harry Potter by JK Rowling, and Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan. I also love the Percy Jackson spin offs like the Trials of Apollo.

In this unit I am going to read Trials of Apollo book three by rick Riordan and the las three Bartimaus books by Jonathan Shroud. I am exited to start reading.

Passion project #7-The journey

As my passion project has came to an end it is now time to reflect on everything that I have done. Firstly I’m going to tell you about the pros and cons of doing an E-Learning passion project.

The pros of working at home are that you can work on your passion project for as long as you like, because your at home. The cons on the other hand is that there are not. Any teachers to help you with this project in person. The pros and cons balance each other out.

Through the this journey I had to learn to do things on my own. My parents are super busy at work and I obviously cant get help from a teacher. For example I had to learn how to research on my own. I went to different websites and took out information from all of them.

There also has been one last thing that I have truly learned about through this journey.  I love researching when I am researching something that I like.

I really hope that we do something like this again!

Passion Project Resources

After Crafting my final presentation it is time to give you all of the sites  that helped me get all of the information I need.

The resources I got my information from are:

NASA

Cal Tech

University of Illinois.

All of these resources were found online.

I am glad to say that my passion project has gone as planned.

Stay alert for my final blog post.

Passion Project Post #6 – The Final Product

As you heard in my last post I have been struggling trying to figure out what should be in my final product. But that challenge has passed. After figuring out what tool put in the video I had to actually make the video. First I wrote a script for me to read. Then I recorded myself. After an hour and a half of hard work I had my narration completed. Next I inserted videos and pictures to help viewers understand what was going on, this took an hour. Then I revised showed my family and went back to my normal work.

But when I woke up the next morning my video was gone. I  tried to get it back but it wa no use. And the worst thing was I had just told Mr. DeBerry that I would be done by tomorrow!

I didn’t know hat to do. But I then realized that my voiceover clips were still there, so I put them back together and that was done. I spent the next hour an a half putting all of my media and videos back in.

At least it was finished. I plan to share my project on Wednesday even though I am don today. Stay tuned for more posts!

Tech Post #9-The END

Sadly Tech has came to an end. We didn’t get to make anything in tech because of the virus, but on the bright side we learned about engineering and atoms. We improvised and did what we could. Mr. Calvert did a good job at finding us fun projects to do. We made du with a bad situation and made this quarter as fun as possible.

Sure it would have been fun to make flashlights and automata but we learned about atoms and engineering instead. That was still fun! Overall I think that Tech was defiantly a quarterly that I will never forget.

Thank you for a good quarter Mr. Calvert

Tech post#8-Fun Engineering Project

Today we made a simple triangular structure in technology. Everyone did there own and they all turned out different! You may be wondering how we managed this over the internet. We did this by using simple things to build with. I used marshmallows and toothpicks. My structure turned out like this:

I mad this structure by using many triangles. M.R. Calvert taught us that since triangles are the strongest shape, it only makes sense that triangular structures are stronger then others.

Next I placed a book on top of my structure, this is what happened.

My structure for the most part held up! It flattened out a bit, but it didn’t totally colapse.!

This is the most fun project I’ve had in my entire E-Learning experience.

Tech post #7 I hope we get back to school

I’m really starting to miss tech class. Online technology is just not the same. There isn’t the thrill of working with soldering irons, or making incredible automata. I can tell that were not going back to tech this year. I feel as if I have missed out on so many things.

I thought that tech would be my favorite quarterly, and it was until this virus hit. I’m not a fan of E-Learning in general, but how do you build fun things over the internet when you don’t have the tools required.

Oh I wish I had tech second quarter.

Passion Project #5-Challanges

Through the course of the passion project journey I had to overcome many obstacles. The biggest one was figuring out what to put in my final product.

Over the course of the project I have filled out many documents of information and I had to squeeze it into a 6 minute video. I ran through all of my information and highlighted the best parts. This alone took hours. But when I completed it I knew that more challenges would await me. I still had not even started my final product and who knew if I could complete it by the deadline of Friday.

But I was more worried about noodle tools. I missed a zoom lesson on noodle tools and I only have a faint idea of what it is. And to make matters worse every time I try to get into the website it kicks me out. I have contacted my teacher on this and I am hoping that he responds.

Stay tuned for more updates

Tech Post #6-Not going a planned

This year in tech I was planning on doing all kinds of crazy things like soldering and making all kinds of things. But right now all that I am making is blog posts.

As you have learned from my last post things are not going as planned. We have been stuck at home for the past month and are expected to be waiting at least one more until we are back in school. The virus has spread so much that were not exactly sure were going back to school.

But we had to make de with a bad situation. We have now started a mechanical engineering  unit. Our first lesson was yesterday. It was the most fun lesson I had in all of my E-learning experience.

So until  we can go back to school we are making due of a bad situation by learning about Mechanical Engingneering. Stay tuned for more updates.
