Technology 9

I am still working on my flashlight. Today I finished soldering my circuit. I just realized that our first unit prepared us for this step. If I hadn’t learned and practiced how to use the soldering iron, then it would have been hard to make the circuit, and I could have burned myself. That would have been dangerous because the soldering iron is 800 degrees. Luckily Mr. Calvert taught us how to use the soldiering iron safely and I was careful. Now I need to put flashlight together.

Now that my flashlight design is done, I am starting to make it. I think the hardest part of this project will be the sawing. The materials we are using are PVC pipes, wires, an LED light, a switch, and a battery. The tools we are using are a saw, a drill, and soldering iron. This will be my first time using a saw and a drill. I am really looking forward to the project.

We learned about a soccer team that was trapped in a cave for two weeks in Thailand. The team was rescued. Our next project to make a flashlight that is waterproof and a certain size. This flashlight could be used in a rescue. I started making my flashlight. I just finished my plan so all I need to do is make it. The most important part in my plan is getting the measurements right. Creating the circuit should be easy because in our last unit we made switches.

Technology 6

I finally finished all of my switches! Now I am ready to start the card game. This game will use my three switches and a deck of cards. This project has been fun and I have learned a lot about circuits. The hardest part of making the switches was using the hot glue gun on the tin foil. I needed to be careful that the glue did not spread out and burn me. I am excited to play the game!

Here are my switches:

Now we are on our next project in technology. We have just started making switches. We are making switches that turn lights on and off. I have already made one and I’m on my second. In this project we are learning about circuits. We used wires, an LED light, a breadboard, and a battery to make our circuit. It was complicated, but it was a lot of fun.

Technology 4

I finished the design for my soldering project, and now I am ready to start soldering. I can’t wait to get started. My design is a Red Sox symbol. I think the hardest part will be bending the wire to make the socks. I have been working on design for a long time on Vectornator, and I think it looks really cool. This has such a fun project and I can’t wait to see how my project comes out.

Technology 3

In technology we are getting ready to start soldering. When you solder you apply heat to melt metal. We are going to solder a circle with a design in it. I think I might make a Red Sox symbol.  We are sketching designs on Vectornator. I am really excited to start soldering, but I am a little nervous because the soldering iron reaches 800 degrees.

Here is a screenshot of one of my designs

Technology 2

Today in technology we working with protons and electrons to move two metal pieces in a jar. An electron is a negative atom and proton is a positive atom. We had to use three items in this project. One of the tools was used to move the two metal items. It was a plastic pipe. The next item was a piece of cloth that we used to move the electrons. We did this by wrapping the cloth around the pipe and then moved it up and down. The last item we needed was the jar that held everything. By doing this project, I learned about protons and electrons.

Technology 1

In technology we did something called breakout. We were in teams, and we tried to find out how to unlock a box with three locks. There were clues all around the room, and we had to finish unlocking the box in 30 minutes. We were so close to finishing all three locks when the timer went off. I think we could have finished it if we had five more minutes. I learned that team work and good communication is important. Overall breakout was really fun and challenging.

Capstone #8

For the capstone project, keeping track of your research sources is really important. I used 16 sources and here are the links to all sources.
