Schools Need Digital Newsrooms

Today’s schools drive tomorrow’s economy. They do this by creating cultures where learning is creative and inspired; where teachers don’t inculcate, but help students grow knowledge; where students imagine new solutions and global structures that are befitting of a truly civilized world. But more than ever, it’s imperative for schools to make their learning and accomplishments transparent to the public. A local community that understands and embraces the learning philosophy of its schools will, we hope, provide the moral and financial support it needs to thrive. The digital newsroom is essential to promoting the good work done in each classroom. The newsroom is comprised staff, students, and possibly parents who come together and decide which stories of the school must be told and who will tell them. The newsroom staff will manage a storyboard listing the events and ideas that must be shared with the community to help articulate and broadcast its vision for learning.
