Plant Experiment #1

My class is doing a plant unit in science. We have a control group and an experimental group. Our question was “Can a plant survive on Gatorade instead of water?”. My hypothesis was that a plant fed Gatorade wouldn’t grow as tall as a plant that was fed water.  For the control group we fed the plant water, gave it some light and fertilizer pellets. My control group is growing perfectly.  For the experimental group we fed the plant Gatorade, gave it some light and fertilizer pellets.

After the first week, both of the plants grew. My control group was already 6 cm!! My experimental group was only 5 mm. The control group is bright green! The experimental is reddish/green. My conclusion is that when the plant gets the Gatorade it takes the sugar and tries to separate the water from the sugar, then it absorbs the water.  I think there is less water in Gatorade than regular water, so the plant in †he experimental group doesn’t get as much water and it can’t grow as much.
