Rube Goldberg Blog Post 6

Rube Goldberg was a wonderful experience and I wish I could do it again. Although I loved working with 2 of my close friends (Graham and Jason), I loved testing the machine a tiny bit more. I was happy yet sad when we finally got a success, happy because it worked and sad that it was over. We had captured the successful run on video. Graham took the video and edited it.(Video Below)  We added effects, music and put in video clips of the failed attempts.   After we finished the edits we had our final video. It turned out pretty good and exceeded my expectations!

Working on this project, I learned how hard people work to create items for our everyday use.  For example, the light bulb. Thomas Edison must have worked hard to make light bulbs that we use today. He must have tried many many times to create his invention.  I am sure he got discouraged with all of the failures, just like we did when our machine kept failing.  Like Thomas Edison, we kept going and finally got the result we wanted.

The project also was a step for me learning how to manage my time. For all of the different due dates I had to think ahead and plan when I could get things done.  I know that I will have lots of projects like this in middle school, so I think it was helpful.   Planning ahead is important. I think we could have gotten a few more meetings in if we had planned more in advance.  Although we got everything done on time, we could have completed each step faster or we could have added more steps to our machine if we had more meetings.  Plus the meetings are fun, so I would not have minded having more of them.

The Rube Goldberg project was an awesome experience and I would love to restart!

We did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We finished our project, the machine worked!!!!!!!!! (on take 21 or something).

Our final meeting began with us jumping right in!!!!!! We had about 5 fails before we succeeded in our last meeting.

On the first attempt, step 3 failed when the car missed the popsicle sticks. On our last 4 attempts (before our success) the popsicle sticks kept missing each other, therefore the step 4 failed. This past meeting was the last meeting we are going to have. It was the best meeting because it was good to experience the feeling of success and I wish we could do the project again!

We have worked hard on our Rube Goldberg and finished it. We have begun testing the machine and have found that it has failed in some parts, in others it works. The way we test is that we try the machine. If it fails, we activate it from the failing point to see if the rest of it will work. By using this kind of process it helps us to work on the parts that need revision while leaving the parts that work alone.

We found that some revisions didn’t work and we continue to improvise and make it better.

Rube Goldberg Blog Post 3

Making decisions for your Rube Goldberg is really hard. Every decision you make is a big part. One bad decision can push you back, so decision making is very important. Graham, Jason and I are working on our Rube Goldberg together and we are making hard choices for our project. It was a hard decision if we should start over and wreck our Rube Goldberg but we did agree to do it.  After wrecking our old Rube Goldberg we started to rebuild it on the pool table, we called it “pools closed” because it was on a pool table. So we got to rebuild and add the final steps to “pools closed” and decided if we needed edits. We tried to test the new machine and it failed. We made edits and we are going to test it again. All decisions we made were a big step towards success and more hard choices will come to help us succeed.

Rube Goldberg Blog Post 2

Our Rube Goldberg is going great! I am working well with Jason and Graham to make a functioning Rube Goldberg machine. On Saturday, last weekend, we decided to take apart the beginnings of our machine and start again.  We started all over again from scratch and we got more done that day than we had ever done before and now we have all of the steps done!

We are a great team and we will get more done in meetings to come. For example, when we needed to get our sketch done we finished it in one day!  Even when we had disagreements about who did what part of the project, we were always able to calmly discuss it and come up with a solution.  There are challenges with working together, especially coordinating our busy schedules to make time for meetings.  I think we are able to work so well together because the three of us were all friends before the project began, and I know we will continue to be friends long after we finish.

Rube Goldberg Project Blog Post 1

We started our Rube Goldberg project about a week ago and we already are 4 steps in! I am making my Rube Goldberg with my friends Graham and Jason.

First, we came up with a plan to get an idea of what we wanted our Rube Goldberg to look like/simple task. Then we got to work. We looked around and pulled some stuff together for the Rube Goldberg. In our first meet we got two steps done. In our second meet we got two more steps done and did a successful run-through! It was awesome! We were screaming like crazy! It was so exiting! though we weren’t finished we knew half of the machine was possible!  Rube Goldberg is the best project ever, I can’t wait to keep going and finish the Contraption!

Video of Our Success (Note: Part of Contraption was not captured)
