STEAM day at SMS

Today was STEAM day at the middle school.  It was such a great event! I am exhausted.

I was in charge of the littleBits station and had a great time seeing students, and parents, explore and discover the possibilities of littleBits.  It was similar to what I did for Tinker Night at Quaker Ridge, but I made some improvements.  This time I brought wooden blocks to separate the bins in hope that students wouldn’t mix the littleBits between the bins. It worked great for the first hour, but then there were too many people coming up to the station at once and they started mixing between the bins.  Next time, I’ll duct tape the wooden blocks to the table in hopes that the bins will stay more organized.

I has students ranging from kindergarten to 7th grade come over and explore with littleBits. I love seeing their “AHA” moments when they discover something they can invent with littleBits.  So many young inventors!

It was amazing to see an event like this at the middle school.  It reminded me of the Maker Faire in NYC.  There was so much to see and do.  I am already looking forward to next year.

Check out how organized everything was before the event started :)
