Summary: You’ve probably heard about global warming and how it’s destroying our world. But do you know the causes? Some researchers agree that if “food” was a country, it would rank 3rd in causes of global warming behind China and the United States. Livestock need a lot of space to graze and move around. This is causing us to destroy all the trees that could help us with this issue of global warming. They also need a lot of natural resources to keep them healthy, such as water. While cows are posing the biggest threat to us humans, pigs, chicken, and other animals are also causing a problem. That’s why environmentalists are recommending that we should switch out all the meat for bugs!

While you might not know it, bugs contain the same amount of nutrients extracted from meat and vitamins extracted from eggs and broccoli! And guess what? Some of them actually taste like the meat you enjoy every day such as bacon and pork (sago grubs taste like bacon and tree worms taste like pork). And to top that off, they don’t require nearly as much land as other livestock. Did you know that to produce 1 kg of cricket meat, you would need 15 sq. meters of land. In contrast, cows require 200 sq. meters of land to produce just 1 kg of beef! Bugs also grow much faster, taking weeks, at the most months, to be mature and ready for human consumption. Normal livestock would take at least a year before it is ready for the butcher. In fact, over 2 billion people are already eating bugs as part of their diet! Mealworms are especially healthy. They contain the same amount of protein as beef, aminoacid from tofu, more vitamin B12 than eggs, and much, much more! But if you can’t bear thinking about the idea of digging in to some crickets the same way you’d bite into a Big Mac, you can just get products that have cricket flour in it, or you can bake the cricket flour into your favorite dishes. So what are you waiting for! Your body and earth will thank you!

Personal Response-Address one or more of these areas: why you chose the article, why the information is important, how you feel about it, what action you think should be taken, what you would do to solve the problem.  Why does this matter? I chose this article because I’m wondering why so many traditions have bugs as part of their diet, and I knew this had to be the answer.
