Science

Today in class we did a science experiment about mixtures and solutions. Our solute was sugar and our solvents were oil, water and vinegar. First we had to make colored sugar and my group chose to turn it pink. The first experiment we had to do was we had to add colored sugar to Oil, my hypothesis was if we mix sugar and oil then the sugar will dissolve and the oil will turn pink. We were mostly correct except that only the top of the oil turned pink. we knew that the oil was going to turn pink.

The second experiment we did was we mixed colored sugar and water. My hypothesis was, If we combine water with sugar then the sugar will dissolve and it will color the water. We were correct againĀ  but for this experiment all of the water turned pink and the sugar dissolved really fast. In about 5 seconds the water was pink and there was no sugar in the water.

The last experiment we did was we added the colored sugar into vinegar. My hypothesis was, if we mix colored sugar with vinegar then it will color the vinegar and it will dissolve. We were not correct for this experiment because the salt didn’t dissolve but the vinegar did turn pink. Not all of sugar dissolved but most of it did.In every experiment we did today the solvent turned pink because the food coloring we used was pink.

Bye bye plastic bags

I liked the book One Plastic Bag by Miranda Paul, because I thought it was interesting that someone made a bag out of plastic. I also liked it because, some people thought Isatou was making a random thing then it turned out it was a cool bag. The book inspired me not to use plastic bags at my house and school.

I also liked the TED talk. I liked the TED talk because I thought it was amazing that two young grownups helped Bali get rid of all the plastic bags. Another reason that I liked the TED talk is because they inspired me to help get rid of plastic bags.

Here is the TED talk from the two girls
