Trisha’s Journey
In the beginning of the book Thank you Mr. Falker by Patricia Polacco Trisha participates in a family tradition, where her grandpa puts honey on a book and asks Trisha to taste it and she said it is sweet and so is knowledge then she chased the honey throughout the book this began her journey to read. When Trisha goes to kindergarten she desperately wants to read but despite her efforts she can not read yet. Her brother tells her to wait till next year but when Trisha is in 1st grade everyone is starting to read but not Trisha. Even though Trisha could not read just yet everyone loved her artwork. Kids crowded around Trisha to watch her do her magic with her crayons. Drawing was actually Trisha’s favorite part of school. In Second grade everyone could read but not Trisha. Soon after Trisha’s grandparents died and school became even harder for Trisha. In the middle Trisha’s mom got a new job, in California, away from her grandparents farm in Michigan. Trisha has to go to a new school. She thinks she can get a fresh start there but there kids call her dumb and be mean to her because she can’t read. Trisha is in 5th grade when someone new comes to her school, Mr. Falker. Mr. Falker was tall and elegant. One day Mr Falker saw one of Trisha’s drawing and he said it was brilliant! Another day kids were picking on Trisha and Mr. Falker stands up for her. Mr. Falker has his work cut out for him because he wants to teach Trisha how to read. Mr Falker finds a way to teach Trisha how to read. At the very end Trisha grabs a book of the book shelf one that her grandpa gave her quite some time ago and put honey on it and says to herself “knowledge is sweet!”
