Now, we had to get cardboard. This was to make the box. We had to follow this tutorial video. The first step we were supposed to do after we got our cardboard was, to cut out four small triangles from the cardboard. We had to label all the pieces of cardboard with your name because if you don’t, it might get lost. Once we had our small triangles, we had to use a hot glue gun to glue the triangles to the four corners. You could either glue them on the outside of your box, or the inside. I glued mine on the outside. Once you were done with these few steps, you could move on to the next step.
Now that we have finally finished our flashlights, we moved on to our next project. It was called a, “automata.” All the tables in the classroom, had a box. It wasn’t just a regular box. It had sticks, flags, straws, etc. Basically, we had to draw what we thought was in the box. Some of the boxes were similar. They were all the same shape and they all had similar materials. We did this for about one class.
The next step to our flashlight was to look at our sketch and put the parts to our flashlight we cut with a saw together. This didn’t take too long. Once, you have completed this step, you are done with your flashlight. All you have to do now is decorate. Decorating is optional. You can decorate your flashlight with markers, Pom Poms, gems, glue, etc. Now, you are finally done with your flashlight!
After, we sawed all of our parts, we had to solder. We had a few parts we had to solder. We had three wires. We had black and red wires, and a place for the battery. You’re probably wondering, how do you solder? The first step is, you have to get safety googles. Then, you have to tie your hair. The soldering iron is really hot. It is more than eight hundred degrees! After that, you have to get solder. It looks like this :
Once you get your solder, you have to take the soldering iron and hold it to what you want to solder, for about five seconds. Then, take your solder and hold it to what you want to solder. After a few seconds, take your soldering iron off, and make sure you soldered it. Next, take a wet sponge and hold it against the part you soldering for a few seconds. Lastly, you have to clean your soldering iron. You have to solder one part at a time. Repeat this process for the rest of the parts. Then, you’re done soldering. Now, you have to put in your battery. Once you put in your battery, the light should turn on. The reason you have to solder is because, if you didn’t you would have no light. And then, your flashlight wouldn’t work. This is a really important step when you’re building your flashlight.
After doing the sketches, the next step was to look at your plan and cut the pieces. For example, if part of your flashlight was 5 inches, you would have to use a ruler to measure 5 inches. And then, you would have to saw all of your parts. After this, you could move on to your next step.
After we watched the video, we were going to try to help the team. In order to do that, we had to make flashlights. Our first step was to sketch our flashlights. We had to use rulers to make the lines straight. We also had to use pencil so if we made a mistake, we could erase it. To sketch the flashlights, we drew all of the parts of the flashlight. We also had to use a ruler to measure the parts of our flashlight. After this, you move on to the next step.
A few weeks ago in Tech, we watched a video. We watched a video about this soccer team who went in a a cave. They went in a cave, because, it was one of their teammate’s birthday. It suddenly started to rain. The team didn’t know it was going to rain. It rained so much that the cave was all flooded. They couldn’t get out. Nobody knew they were in the cave. The team couldn’t swim because they didn’t know how. The team was trapped in the cave. Eventually, people found out about the cave. They were trying too rescue the team. They gave them food, water, etc. Finally, they got the team out.
A few weeks ago in Tech, we started a new project. It’s called, “The Switch Game.” Everybody in our class has to make three switches. To make theses switches, you use tin foil, card board, hot glue, popsicle sticks, straws, rubber bands, markers, etc. Once, you’re done with your switch, you play, “The Switch Game.” You play with other people at your table. To play, “The Switch Game” you use cards. Overall, “The Switch Game” was really fun.
Today in tech, we started learning about driveless carss. Driveless cars are cars that drive themesleves. Driveless cars can be helpful, but they can also be dangerous. Driveless cars can be helpful because if you are blind, you can still drive and go places. Driveless cars can also be dangerous because they could cause accidents. Now, we are up to our final steps in Capstone! The next step was to present! After a while, we started presenting in front of my class. At first, I was really nervous, but once I was done, I felt much better and wasn’t nervous to go in the future. We practiced in front of the class little by little. For example, when we first started to present in front of the class, we went for two minutes. Then, we went for four minutes. Finally, we presented our whole presentation. Then, we practiced in front of other classes. Next, we had our big Capstone presentation in front of the parents. I liked how a few kids were in every room to present so we didn’t have to listen to about sixty kids present because everyone’s is about five minutes long.
