I think that Fival really wants to become more like a American. I don’t get why he wants to change when hes great. I think Benyoman is a great name I don’t think He should have a different name. I wonder why Benyoman is sitting on the fence and not playing tag with the other kids. I think Fival and his brother are liking school so far. Ma seems that she doesn’t like there American names and that they need a birthday.

I think Fivel was happy when he heard he was going to school, but when he got there he was not happy. I don’t think that they need American names. I think they are all having trouble fitting in.

I don’t get why Fivel is trying to turn into an American. I like the name Fivel better than Phil and he doesn’t know the year he was born so why would he say that. I’m starting to dislike the story a little bit. Also I think that “Bridge to America” is very similar to “Home of The Brave” and “A Long walk to Water” in the concept that they are all about people or a person going to a new country and trying to fit in to their new life. The stories I think are very similar.

Yeah, all of these kinds of immigration books. I feel like there’s a kind of theme going on

I think that I will get really confused with their new English names. I think that it is really great that Fivel is playing with other kids at recess. It shows that he really wants to fit in and belong. I thin that it is funny that they don’t know what birthdays are. For us birthdays are just birthdays. For them they don’t even know what a birthday is let alone what their birthday is. I think the book is going to end with Fivel making his speech. His first English speech.

I think he is trying to fit in, like changing names, making up a birthday. However, I don’t think it is neccesary to fit in, he should be proud of where he came from and his family history, and he shouldn’t change names, because Fivel’s father and mother gave him that name, and he should not change it no matter what, even if it sound strange to his classmates. I also think Fivel and Benyomin is too eager to be an American to forget where they are from. I wonder if things at school will be better at the end of the year. If they have the chance, I think they ould go back to Poland after WWII.

I think that it was hard at the start of school for Fivel but when he got his name and his Birthday he was happy about that. Fivel was mad that the teacher told all the kids in his class that he was immigrant and all the kids laughed at him and he felt bad that the had done that to his friend back in the shuttle. Fivel though at recess that you could go home but you can’t so he played tag with the other kids and I was surprised that Benyomin was in 5th grade and that Fivel was in 4th grade I thought that when they each got placed in a grade they would be in the same grade or that Fivel would be a grade higher than Benyomin.

I think that “Phil” will continue getting bullied and teased for being an immigrant and he will get sad. I also think the rest of his siblings will get teased as well. I think Ma will get sick of America and Pa will try calming her down and he’ll succeed. It felt like just a week ago we learned about the Jewish boy Fivel and the scary rich man that came to his house to take him away. I think Fivel is maturing throughout the book but slowly, because when he let Benyomin alone, he almost got illed by Cossaks and then almost thrown overboard. So, I think Fivel will think about doing some mischief and when he asks Benyomin, he says no.

I agree with Michelle that Fivel will keep on getting bullied as an immigrant but a thing is, I don’t find being an immigrant bad. But apparently Fivel does.

I feel like being in so many life-death situations would be something that Fivel could brag about to the kids in her class.

I think that Ma is right and that Fivel and his brothers and sisters don’t need American names. It’s a little silly. Phil does not fit with Fivel but if Fivel thinks so, okay then. I’m actually really happy that Fivel gets to learn English and he was really lucky to have Jeannette know Yiddish.

Why do they need such different names? Ben, I can understand. But fival is easy to pronounce, Hannah is also a name in America, and kvola and rifca are also easy to pronounce.

I think that America will be a good fit for Fivel and his family. I also think that they will will change their names back to their original ones.

I think that Five really wants to fit in with his class and be American. Their new names are pretty cool and Benyomin has a really good birthday. It’s Christmas! I think Jeanette is a very good friend so far and I think that’s good for Fivel. But I know some of you are disagree about needing to have new names. I really think that both kinds are fine of names are fine. A thing that I am recently noticing is that Ma seems unhappy about something to do with the children’s excitement about American names and changes in America. I think Ma is unhappy about all the change and maybe something else.

I think Fivel, or Phil, (which sound pretty similar if you ask me) will probably make more friends. I think Fivel also might have to take a test of some sort, and he will not know what a test is.

I think it’s bad that Fivel or Phil doesn’t like himself just because he’s an immigrant. That doesn’t mean that he’s not human, it obnoxious the way the kids treat him. I agree with Zoya because I also think Fivel will make lots of new friends. I think it’s nice that he met someone who knows Yiddish. I also think that ma is hiding something.

i think that ma is not very happy that her kids are moving on and acting like they are leaving her behind. i think this because ma is not happy about when they told her there english names and when they told her that they needed a birthday.
