Finished Product

The good thing about doing this project at home is that I had more free  time so I got things done quickly. The challenging part of it, is that if we need help, we have to write an email and put our thoughts into words. This project was pretty fun and I learned a lot. It would’ve been nice to get a book from the library or a book story but getting resources online wasn’t so bad. Overall, I’m really happy with my slideshow and the process of the project wasn’t very hard.

Finishing Up

I’m getting to the end of this project and I’m really excited to see other peoples projects too. I’m almost done with my slideshow, I’m just adding the final touches. I’m so excited to see my finished project and I should be finished by tomorrow. I think its going to be fun to see what others people chose for their topic and how they’re presenting their project. I’ll keep you guys updated for my final product.

Facing Obstacles & Challenges

One thing that is challenging when it comes to researching, is when you have to reword a sentence. We do this so we don’t plagiarize but it can be hard trying to make a sentence make sense when your doing that. We just have to deal with it and make it make as much sense as possible. It can also be hard finding sources with information you need. You might find a small article and realize you already have that information or its information that’s not important to your project.

Learning About Myself

This project has thought me that I like to do a specific amount of notes everyday. I also learned its better to read as much information as you can find just in case you miss anything you might need. I want to become a very good worker and stop procrastinating. I also want to make my slide show fun and interesting for the people who will see it. But the project is almost due and I’m really excited.

Project Process

So far it hasn’t  been too hard finding resources. And I’ve had a lot of time for researching so I have been getting my work done. For my notes I have been writing the sub question, then the source, and the note for the sub question. I haven’t had to change anything yet like a sub question or resource but I might. From looking at my notes you can tell that I’ve been putting a lot of effort into this project. Some resources I’ve been using are:

Resources and Notetaking

When it came to getting resources, I just looked up websites with the history and the facts about Air Force Ones. I will compare the informations on the website to other websites so I know the information is trustworthy and I will do many other things to make sure I can rely on some website. I think the resources that will be most helpful are the ones with the the information that’s most important and that I need. I don’t think the way any website looks or what it has really makes it more useful I just think the informations in a website is what matters. The skill I’m trying to improve in is being able to figure out what a word means by looking at the other words around It. I’m also trying to learn better vocabulary words and these too skills will help with interviews and videos to make me sound more professional. For note taking, I’m just getting information for every sub question at a time and then I’ll get to my main inquiry question.

Topic Choice and Proposal

When I had to choose a topic for this passion project, I was pretty stuck. I didn’t even know what I was interested in. I had no choice but to think of really random topics.  After a while I just looked around my room and it came to me. As I stared at my shoes, I started thinking. I could just do my project about Nike Air Force Ones. Those are one of my favorite pairs of shoes and it’s a very unique topic, so I thought why not. It took me a while to be 100% sure that I was going to do that for my project. But once I was sure, the research questions just came to me. I just thought of the questions I asked myself when I got my topic. I’m really excited to see what the next step will be and I’ll keep you guys updated!

Capstone #4

So far, Capstone is going really good and I wrote down my whole script on flash cards. I wrote it down on flashcards to help me memorize my script and it has really helped. For my real presentation I won’t have my script on flashcards but I will have key points on them. I finished my slideshow and script, and now I’m working on memorizing my script and practicing to present. I always get really nervous when I present something in front of people and my face turns bright red, but this time, I’m hoping I will be more comfortable because I’ve been practicing a lot. Capstone has been really fun but sometimes it can be really frustrating and stressful, like when I couldn’t find a site visit, or when I felt like I was behind on my script. But overall, most of the time I spend on this project has been really fun and I hope I will do something like this again in Middle school.

Dennis Oehler Learning From our Differences 4th Grade

At Heathcote Elementary School  we have a program called learning from our differences. In this program we learn about mental and physical disabilities. This year a man with a physical disability came to the school to talk to the 4th grade. His name was Dennis Oehler. He lost his leg and needed to use an artificial leg.

He told us that it is common for kids to stare at other people with a disability, but he also told us to not stare and to treat them as regular people you see. Dennis Oehler was going to become a professional athlete at soccer, but because of his leg injury he became a athlete in the Paralympics. Mr. Oehler shared his story (about his leg) with us. What he said was very inspirational. He even shared a story about his three year old daughter. I loved having him here.
