Capstone #7: Capstone Share

. “I am nervous.” Don’t be nervous.” Its almost my turn. “Do I have to go?” “Come on Ian don’t be scared.” “I’m not scared. I’m nervous.” Its finally my turn. I go up to the smart board. I present my ignite talk. I ended up doing okay on it. I thought that I wasn’t going to do well. It was really fun presenting in front of everyone. My sisters missed school to come to my presentation and my dad missed work. I thought is was cool that they took time out of their day just for me. It turns out I din’t use the pickles that I got. I presented in the computer lab. When we presented for K-4 no one came to the computer lab so we presented to each other. I also practiced once in the auditorium.

I CAN’T BELIEVE CAPSTONE IS OVER! IT WAS SO QUICK.

Capstone #6: Working on final project

For my final project I’m doing an ignite talk. An ignite talk is with a slideshow. Each slide is 15 seconds. I was thinking ted talk or ignite talk. I was going to do a ted talk but when I heard that a ted talk had to be 6-8 minutes I said ” I won’t have enough information to talk for 6 minutes.” An ignite you just have to have 12 slides for 3 minutes. So I am doing an ignite. For my slideshow the each slide is a question. I will answer the questions. When we were in the computer lab I was going to start practicing. I couldn’t get past the first slide. YIKES. ” If I can’t get past the first slide with 5 people how am I supposed to do it with 150 people.” I am nervous that I will mess up during my presentation. I might stop because I forgot the words. I don’t want to write the words on index cards because I think that I have to exactly off it. If I say something that’s not on the card I will get annoyed at myself. I really want to do well for my presentation. I can’t wait!

My slideshow is down below.

I can’t believe we present in 8 days!

Capstone #5: Answering my main inquiry question

“Don’t forget guys.” “Answering your main inquiry question is due in two days.” Once I heard that I knew that I  was done. I hadn’t even started it. I was really nervous that I was not going to get my answer down in two days. I told Ms. Edwards that I haven’t even started it. She said ” Don’t worry.” ” Everything is going to be all right.” When we were working on capstone later in the day we were supposed to work on our main project (ted talk or ignite). Ms. Edwards let me work on my main inquiry question. I got half of it done. I was so happy.

Capstone #4: Site Visit

For my site visit I went to the Ba-Tampte factory. I knew I was going to the Ba-Tampte factory when I heard we had to have a site visit. It was really cool. But I had to wake up at 4:15 in the morning. That was the only way I could get to the factory. When I went there were 4 kittens hiding upstairs in the factory. I went to help find them. They were so cute. A few of the workers brought them home. I helped by taking the cucumbers in water out of the water with a net. It was very heavy if you took 10 cucumbers. There is a vehicle called a hiLO. The workers use it so they can bring items around. It can hold over 1000 pounds. My dad let me drive one by myself. We also went to get beverages for my family. On a hiLO the back two wheels move to turn. Not the front two wheels like a car. I had so much fun at the site visit!

Capstone #3: Interview

“Come on dad I’m ready.” “You take so long to get ready.” “I’m ready” my dad says. “Finally.” I knew I was going to interview my dad when we had to do an interview. I was thinking of doing my grandpa also but I didn’t. We start our interview. It is going well. When we are done I look at the camera. The video already stopped. “How did it stop with no one touching it.” I watched the video. It only went up to 7 minutes and 18 seconds. I thought it would be longer. It turns out I didn’t have enough storage on my phone. I was so mad, My face was red. I started deleting a lot of things on my phone. Pictures and apps. I wanted to do it again but it was to late and I had to go to bed.  I had to do the interview the next day during my site visit. For the first 7 tries we couldn’t get passed question number two because my dad didn’t like his answers. We finally did it! We were supposed to have 10 to 12 questions. I had 20. It was because there was so much to ask and I could annoy my dad. The other kids had interviews that weren’t with there relative so they couldn’t annoy them.

Capstone #2: Choosing a main inquiry question and sub question

My main inquiry question is: How does geography affect the success of Ba-Tampte?

At first I had a different question. And then a different question. The question was how does Ba-Tampte compare with it’s chief rival and how can they raise the sales? But I didn’t like it. I said “I want a question that involves geography.” I wanted geography because I thought there could be a lot of good sub questions.

My sub questions are:

  1. Where do the cucumbers come from?
  2. is Which states sells Ba-Tampte’s products in stores?
  3. Does the location of the cucumber affect the pickles taste?
  4. How are Ba-Tampte pickles made?
  5. How does a pickle become a kosher pickle?
  6. Where was Ba-Tampte first sold? How did the location of that area affect the sales in the beginning?

Capstone #1: Choosing a Topic

When we were choosing our topic I couldn’t decide between two topics. The topics were hockey and Ba-Tampte. Ba-Tampte is my family’s pickle company. I would do hockey because I love hockey so much. It was so hard to choose. Thinking about each topic back and forth. what can I do for hockey and what can I do for Ba-Tampte. I decided to do Ba-Tampte because I have interest in learning about pickles. Its kind of crazy but I don’t like pickles and my family owns a pickle company. I think I will have a fun time working on capstone. I hope I don’t regret my decision.
