Tech 7 #4 3D printing

I think that things that might be made from 3D printing are my computer and lamp. I don’t think anything else is 3D printed because China doesn’t really print things (or have paper). 3D printing is cheap and durable and like plastic it can indure long periods of time. I think that most artists that used scultures before have resorted to 3D printing because it is a lot cheaper and the whole thing can be put together so that the whole thing is shown before it’s acutally complete. With a diagram you can only see one way. I think a problem 3D printing can solve is plastic use. 3D printing is just like plastic in every way, except it can be turned into fuel to be reused. Plastic can do this, but it isn’t as efficent as 3D.

Tech 7 #3 Timber

I think that destroying all those trees to make lumber is very bad. It damages the environment and takes homes away from animals.  I know that people might be planting trees, but the supply of human made trees can’t match the demand for wood. I think that it’s really fascinating on how the machines so accurately determine the lengths between the tree and what tree is where. There are so many different possibilities to where the tree trunks could be that it’s amazing that a machine can determine where each one is.

Tech 7 #2 Zoom tech overview

During Zoom I go to my google docs and open up my virtual schedule and click on the link. The zoom browser opens up and I get two pages, one the actual meeting and another is my profile. During zoom I can go to different tabs because when I use zoom on the computer, I can make the meeting shrink and still control zoom distantly. The zoom browser has to be downloaded and since my mother is a teacher, I just have to install my account which is my Scarsdale google account.  I can also open pdfs during class and put them in adobe flash to edit and save. When I submit during class, I put the file on as an attachment. Sometimes the wifi is slow and I can be temporarily disconnected. Luckily, when a person is kicked out of zoom on their computer, the zoom software automatically connects them back in so I don’t have to use the link again. I would suggest using a computer for zoom and an ipad for all the work during class and a place with strong connection.

Tech 7 grade #1 Building

Building is the action of creating an object that is stable. I enjoy building in tech 6 and using legos. I built a big cruise ship and a ton of other little objects. My favorite creations were very recent, when I created a ton of mini statues with super tiny legos. I created a little crab, lizard and the yellow bear with the ret t-shirt. I enjoy making things when I don’t need to handle dangerous items because I fell pressure to keep my fingers safe. With legos I just need to put them together in a certain way. It’s different than other activites I like because I need to focus and use and instruction. I like it because I know that I’m going to make something really beautiful and I don’t need to concentrate too much.

Technology #8

It’s the next class and I decided to switch it up a bit and turn it into a normal looking flashlight since it looked easier to draw. I completed early do I got to do my wires and I proceeded during the next class. I sautered quickly and I kept waiting forever. Next I cut the pipe for my flashlight and it was really easy. Last I had to drill a hole for my flashlight which was very alarming but easy at the same time. Finally I assembled the flashlight together and decorated it with pompoms, beads and markers. I took my flashlight home as soon as Mr. Calvert took a picture.

Technology #7

We are starting out flashlights today! We learned about how 10 soccer team kids and their coach got stuck in a network of tunnels and how a international team got them out. Now we are charged with the task of making a flashlight that can fit in a small box. I already have my design, one that doesn’t require cutting a pipe at all. I got to my design after completing one very boring but complex worksheet. I finished that the next class and got started with my design. I looked at the pieces and decided which ones I wanted. It was really easy and for the rest of the class I sort of just walked around the classroom.

Technology #6

We finally played the switch game it took a long time to play. I for one didn’t really like it. It was very boring and one of my switches broke. Another person only make one and kept playing the game wrong… The red cards were obstacles while the black represented nothing. We took videos and was very annoying. I for one was bored when I was recording. When you are the driver, it gets intense because you have to react quick. But as a card person, it’s pretty easy. All you have to do is wait and move.

Technology #5

We decided to take a break on the pendants and go to make switches instead. The switches were easy with a couple of hot glue burns…. that didn’t hurt much. I didn’t use the hot glue guns often because they took a while to for the glue to settle and it’s very hard to position with a high chance of burns. Also there was a very long time and masking tape was a lot easier. I got two switches done in one class (Same design and very easy to make) with a lot of access cardboard. But I got one burn that day too. In the end I decided to make one big switch with my remaining cardboard but it ended up only being twice as large. Another problem, still some cardboard left that sits in my bin to this day.

Technology #4

The last week was all about the pendants and I’m almost done. I really want to finish it but today we are doing something else. I spent a lot of time on the pendant, making sure it was perfect. But even eventually the glue for the metal ruined it and I had to try several times. Later he took the picture and i’m Ok with the pendant, but the process of sautering, burning the gold metal, and the files is very exhausting and I didn’t like it. At least we get to keep it!

Technology #3

So we are starting our first project which involves soldering, one of the most dangerous equipment in the room. We are making pendants with the maximum being 5 wires. The boys at my table wanted to try logos but I did a evil eye and a yin yang. We had to fill up the whole page, so I did a ton of designs that I didn’t really like. We had to number them and I chose the evil eye first. We didn’t go any further than that cause we ran out of time.
