Plant Observations #3

A few weeks ago we pollinated our plant. We pollinated our plant with our fingers. We just touched the flower gently and then pollen went on our fingers. The next day the plant looked so different. The petals were falling off, it looked a little dry and dead.

Then we noticed that it had 21 buds in all, our tallest plant is 20 cm long, one plant has a dark stem and leaves, our biggest leaf is 3 cm long , there are not that much flowers anymore, and there are a lot of pods.

I think that next week all of the plant’s petals will fall off, there will be more pods, the plant will look like it is dead, and new flowers will grow.

Above is my controlled plant. If you look closely there are these pods and buds on the plant. The plant grew a lot compared to when we started planting it!

Plant Observations #2

After the past 2 weeks my group noticed that the controlled plant has more buds, the rough leaves are bigger, the plants are 5 cm or less, one plant is dark green, and our biggest leaf is 2 cm. The next day we saw that the controlled one has some hairs on the stem, our tallest plant is 6 cm, the big leaves are darker, and 2 leaves are a little bit yellow. The controlled plant used to start as a seed and now it’s growing pretty tall!

What we saw in the manipulated plant was that it is ½ cm tall, the dirt is brown, the plant is light green, and there are no buds. After that day we saw that the plant has dark soil, tiny white hairs on the stem, about 1 cm, and the plant is green. Our manipulated plant used to not grow yet but since we started giving the manipulated plant more water it grew!

I think this happened because our manipulated plant was outside and birds or the wind would mess the plant up. The controlled one grew great because nothing was bothering them while they were growing and that it had all the minerals and water and nutrients and sunlight the plant needed. I think the outcome is this way because the manipulated plant was under the shade and it didn’t get that much sunlight. I think the controlled plant grew great because it got a lot of sunlight.

This is the manipulated and the controlled plants. The plant outside is the manipulated. The plant inside is the controlled.

Our manipulated and controlled plant grew a lot than what it used to look like!

Plant Observations # 1

In science we did an experiment with plants. You plant 2 plants. 1 plant is manipulated and 1 plant is controlled. The controlled plant stays inside and the manipulated plant is the plant you will experiment with and compare with the controlled one. My hypothesis  is that the controlled one will grow better because it has a good environment.   My experiment is to see if planting the plant outside is better than inside. You need a box that has 4 squares to put the plant in, 2 seeds in each square, 3 fertilizers in each square, some soil, 1 wick in each square, and some water to plant it.The wick helps the water go up to the plant. First we took the box and put the wicks in the squares. Next we put some soil in the squares. Then we put 3 fertilizers in each box. After that we put soil on the fertilizer to cover it.Then we put 2 seeds in each square. After that we watered it.

Then my group put 1 plant outside and 1 plant inside that has a perfect environment. Then we wait for tomorrow and see what happened then compare it to each other. Since the first week my group saw that the controlled one was 2 cm or more and that there were new leaves sprouting on the plant. We also saw that it was green. We noticed that the manipulated plant was small and it was 0 cm and it was green. Comparing the controlled and the manipulated, the controlled one is growing better and that the manipulated plant is not growing that well. I wonder why?
