Feature Article – Octopuses

This is a feature article I worked on. My class has been working on feature articles. My topic that I studied on is octopuses. I chose to study octopuses because not that much people know about octopuses and octopuses are very interesting marine animals. Working on this feature article was fun but difficult. First I had to choose a topic out of many different options. Next, I did research on my topic. Then, I typed out a draft of my feature article, then copied and pasted it on google docs. Finally, I put in pictures and a background. The resources I used were the library databases. I hope you enjoy my feature article!

When I Got Lost

One day, on a saturday morning my mom, brother, and I went to the mall. When we got there we all decided to go to the same store. We went inside the store and followed my mom, looking bored. After a long five minutes of silence my mom looked at us and said, “If you want to go look at something somewhere else, go ahead. But just remember that…”

“Bye mom!” My brother and I said before we ran away from her. But what my brother and I didn’t know was that we should have let her finish her sentence before we ran off. After we ran away she finished her sentence,”You have to stick together because you guys don’t know this place very well.” My mom said worried, looking around her, hoping she will spot us. “They’ll be fine, don’t worry about it.” she said, talking to herself.

Meanwhile, my brother and I were looking at random stuff like hair conditioner and school supplies. ” I’m going to go look at those clothes.” My brother said, pointing at the clothes he wanted to go to while staring at me.

“Sure, it’s not like mom told us to stick together.” I said, holding a glittery notebook, staring at it, like it was the most interesting thing in the world. He walked towards the clothes he wanted to see. After a couple of minutes, I looked up to see if my brother was there. “He’s not there.” I whispered, my eyes wide open. “What if mom was trying to say something important to us before we ran away” I dropped the stack of post-its I was holding and ran without thinking.

“Where are you guys?” I said, not yelling, because I didn’t want to draw attention. I saw a women and a boy, that looked like my mom and my brother, so I ran to them. ” You guys don’t know how worried I was.” I said breathing heavily. They turned around and I realized that was not my mom and my brother. ” I’m sorry, do I know you?” The women said. “I am so sorry, I thought you were someone else.” I said, then ran away. I kept on running, then I saw my mom and my brother.”

”Where were you, we were looking for you everywhere?” My mom said, “Are you hurt?” ”I’m fine.” I said. ” Sorry we ran off before you finished talking to us.” It’s ok.” My mom said. ”Can we go home? I’m really tired.” My brother said, yawning. “Sure, let’s go.” my mom said. We walked out the store, and I felt relieved that I finally found my family.

Colonial America Book Reflection

In class, we were supposed to make books that had to do with colonial life. First, we have to write three topics that you would want to research on. Next, our teacher picks our topic. Then,  we write about colonial life for chapter one, and then you research on your topic. When you’re done researching on your topic, you organize your information with index cards. After you’re done organizing your research, you start to write your second, third, and fourth chapters. Then you write your glossary and your bibliography.

In chapter one, you write about when Colonial America was discovered and the colonies there. Chapter two is about your topic. You can put subheadings in chapter two. Chapter three is when you make up a character who lived in colonial times. Then you write either a journal entry or a letter. Chapter four is when you come up with a question, and when you get up to chapter four, you use the question and answer it with your research and talk about the answer to your question. A bibliography is when you list all of the places you got your information or sources.

The process of making this book was fun but challenging. The fun part was when we typed our research on google docs, and copied it on google slides and find pictures. That was fun for me because it was really easy to do but I still liked researching. The challenging part for me was finding the information. My topic was school, and when I went home and searched up colonial schools, nothing was found. So the challenging part for me was researching because there wasn’t much to find about colonial schools and I have to use books because there’s information for colonial school.

When I was writing this book I learned a lot about colonial schools. I wasn’t really interested in colonial schools but I wanted to try something new. I hope you enjoy my book!

My Expert Book Reflection

We wrote expert books in 3rd grade. It was really fun doing the project because I can write about something I like. It was a little hard writing the book because sometimes when you think you’re done you always have to add more stuff to your book. The fun thing I like about writing this book is that you could add pictures and videos to your book. I wrote a lot of google slides and this is the best one I wrote. In this book you will learn about a lot of things in swimming. You will learn about rules, how to breathe and diving. I hope you like my book!
