Westward Expansion

We were leaning about Westward Expansion in class. Some of the topics our first test were the Transcontinental Railroad, the Gold Rush, Lewis and Clark’s Expedition, and the Louisiana Purchase. We did a project with different topics. My group consisted of Giselle, Sammy, Meena, and me. Our group was Pioneer Life.  All the other groups did board games relating to their projects. We wanted to do something different. We put on a play (About a girl who travels back in time to the 1800s. Three girls help her and teach her about Pioneer Life) and made a clay visual of a pioneer home. It turned out really well.

Debates

I’ll admit. Our debates were challenging. Finding all the reasons and evidence. Coming up with the best counter claims possible. Sorting out who goes when, and who shows what videos when. After weeks of preparing though, they turned our pretty good! We all had fun! Our second debate was a bit easier. This time I wasn’t as nervous. It ran pretty smoothly. Our choice to do visual demonstrations benefitted us. Click here to see the videos… I hope you enjoy!!!

Important News of 2015

I think out of the 16 articles in the TFK (Time For Kids article) that the story about the spacecraft flying by Pluto. It was a hard decision because there was also a promising story about the Eiffel Tower lighting up the colors of the French flag. But, this one seems more important. I think this is the most important because it is a breakthrough, and we could soon land on Pluto. There could be forms of life there, which could be very beneficial and AWESOME!!!! This happened on July 14 2015.

NASA Video Confrence

Today we talked to a person from NASA. She said she was in Kennedy Space Center. Back when I lived in Miami, in fourth grade we got to go to Kennedy Space Center for a field trip.

This person’s name is Rachel Power. She specializes in digital learning network. She informed us about a private company that builds rockets. It’s called Space X.
There is a rocket that was flying to Pluto. It left in 2006 (When most of us were 1 1/2 years old.). It just got to it’s destination. 9 1/2 years later.
We that they are launching  a rocket signal thing on January 17, which is my brother’s bar mitzvah date.
Overall I think it was really educational to here about what is going on in the complicated world of NASA.

Writing Non Fiction Feature Articles

Writing the non fiction articles on anything we want gave us  an opportunity voice to express ourselves. At first, we had to do research on a topic of our choice. Then, we started writing. We wrote for a couple of weeks about our topic. We wrote non fiction, but it wasn’t boring. We gave it interesting content. That was probably what I liked most about this whole process. Designing the articles was really frustrating because there was always something that I couldn’t figure out that had to do with Microsoft Word. You had to copy and paste everything that you had wrote, and there was always something wrong with the text  box. Making the writing look like an article after you put all your text in, now that was hard. I couldn’t get everything to line up correctly, and everything kept deleting itself.
