In class, we had to create colonies in groups. We had to pick jobs and vote for the governor. I am the head soldier in the militia fighting against the Spanish and Natives. In my free time, I work as a gunsmith. I use the guns I make to fight. I really like being a soldier! We are starting the American Revolution, I will really enjoy it. I am really excited because we are starting to build our colony! I am really excited!
We are reading a book called Stargirl in class by Jerry Spinelli. My thoughts on Stargirl are that, One, I think that Leo and Kevin are curious about Stargirl and what she is doing, and two, Leo is very determined to try and find stuff about Stargirl that is unknown. I think Stargirl is a very interesting story about a school that is boring, and Stargirl comes and lightens the mood. In this school no one wants to stand out. They just want to blend in, not to be noticed. I think this book is very interesting and confusing… But I like it! I think the moral of this book so far, is that you should not be afraid to stand out, just be yourself.
“Be yourself, others can’t judge it.”
“You are unique, only one you.”
These 6 word memoir’s might mean a lot to other people and their lives.
We read the book, The Brilliant Deep. It inspired me:
I really liked the story the brilliant deep because it had lots of details and it described the coral and how a little boy named Ken cared about it and also how the coral is alive and helping the environment. This made me realise, if you have a passion, you should believe in it and follow it. Like in the book, Ken’s father had a passion for engineering at NASA, but Ken had a passion for the ocean. Later in his life, he started a group called the Coral Restoration Foundation. It was a group of people that cared and had a passion for for the ocean and or coral. And they also wanted to help out with the coral reef’s. “It only takes one.” One person can make a difference. Ken as a little boy enjoyed his passion, and as he grew up, he spread it to the world. This book really inspired me! If you have a passion, follow it like it is the best thing in the world.
Steak. When I first had it, I felt like I had just won the biggest achievement in the world.
I had eaten 2 WHOLE STEAKS! It was so good! As soon as it touched my mouth, my taste buds felt like they had exploded from the good taste. Barbecue sauce burning in my mouth. It was… AMAZING!
Now steak is my favorite food, (well of course!) but now whenever I see steak burning on a barbecue, my mouth waters almost instantly!
Steak is truly the best food I’ve ever ate!
My class has been studying plants. My group decided to exchange the soil with rocks. For the past 2-3 weeks, we have been taking notes and measuring our Manipulated and Controlled plant.
My Control plant’s measurements started off as 2 ½ cm then 3 cm, 4 cm, 6 cm, 13 cm, 14 cm, 15 cm, 16 cm then 17 cm. Man, it has grown a lot since the beginning.
My Manipulated plant’s measurements started off as 1 cm then 2 cm, 3 cm, 4 cm, 4 ½ cm, 5 cm and then 5 ½ cm. It turns out it shrank, not grew.
I think this happened because the roots in the manipulated could not absorb the water at the bottom.
Our class is studying plants. We were wondering if the plant would grow even with different soil? We thought that we could add rocks to our plant instead of soil. My Control plant has 4 flowers, 34 buds and is 15 cm tall. My Manipulated plant has rocks instead of soil and has 0 buds, 4 are dead and it is 4 cm tall.
My Control plant has been changing. It started off as 2 ½ cm, 3 cm, 4 cm, 6 cm, 13 cm, 14 cm then 15 cm.
My Manipulated plant started off as 1 cm and then still 1 cm the next day, then 2 cm, 3 cm and then 4 cm in the next two days. My Control compared to my Manipulated shows that the Control has grown more. The rocks is not working out as a change for the soil, I wonder why?
Maglev Day 2
We used strip magnets for the car and track. We used 2 magnets for the car and 8 for the track. We had 2 at first on the track, but then we put 6 more to increase the magnetic field. We needed to make it repel so we put each magnet on the north side.
Along the way at the end, our car failed by tipping over. We learned from our fail that the more magnets, the bigger magnetic field. We changed the track by putting more magnets. We kept trying and finally we made it levitate.
The Engineering Design Process (EDP) is… Frustrating, Never ending and it made me realize that failure is okay. I learned that working in a group means Teamwork. Teamwork means… being nice, encouraging each other and combining ideas, = better!
A Maglev train is a train that moves by magnetic levitation. It works because on the tracks, there are magnets and that makes the train levitate, so it repels.
My group’s idea was putting 2 strip magnets on the tracks and 5 disc magnets on the train.
Sadly, nothing worked on Friday. 🙁
Our track was not even but it was levitating but not moving, so we are going to change the disc magnets to strip magnets for the train.
Chloe and Greta gave me feedback because I was not there.
What is Technology? I think technology is something is made by a person and that people need or something that improves or remodels an item, But it makes it easier and better. It also entertains people or amuses them. Technology is very something useful to people.
My object is Technology because it helps you see small things! If you want to see a cool ant, but it bites, you can bring a magnifying glass and peer at it. But don’t get too close!
My object solved the problem to see small things closely. It made life better because then you don’t have to carry a microscope around!
My object improved the microscope. Someone named Zacharias Janssen invented the microscope, and Roger Bacon made the Magnifying glass.
