Hi everyone! I know it has been a while since I’ve posted…but today I will be talking about timber harvest and how it has changed over the years.
For tech class I watched three videos on timber harvesting; one from 1947 and two more recent ones. I noticed that in the video from 1947 everything was more manually done with more workers on the site. I also noticed that the workers did not seem safe. They didn’t have the technology that we have now and therefore were not fully equipped and safe to do the job. For example, a worker would be many feet in the air dangling from an unreliable rope while cutting the tree. And once the tree had been cut, since the worker cut it from so high above ground, the tree log could fall and severely injure or even kill somebody below.
On the other hand in the more recent videos I noticed that the majority of the work was being done by machines and therefore more safe. With all the new technology these lumber companies didn’t need to hire as many workers because they had machines to do all the work. I noticed that this made the site more safe. Now the safety of workers at these logging sites has been taken care of.
I learned a lot about timber harvest from these three videos and I enjoyed watching them. I have linked the videos below in case you want to check them out. Thank you for reading my post!
