In class, we started to make circuits. I am making mine from cardboard, tin foil, popsicle sticks, and a rubber band. To make it work, you have to push down the popsicle stick so that the tin foil on the bottom of it touches the tin foil on the surface of the cardboard. I used scroll saws to cut my cardboard and then hot glue guns to get it to stay in place. The rubber band holds the popsicle stick up when you are not pushing the popsicle stick down. I was very happy with the end product. We will be testing them out on Friday, the 21st.

On Monday the 10th of January, I finally got to solder my ring. The first step that I needed to do before I started was putting flux on the ring. I needed to put it on all of the points where I was going to connect the wires together. When I finished putting the flux on the wires, I finally got to the soldering part. Soldering was easier than I thought it would be so I got it done pretty quick. I am happy with how the ring came out. I thought this project was a fun project to work with wires and solder.

On January 3rd, I continued making my ring design in class. I used wire to make a design on my ring. I thought it was easy to mold the wires so that they would fit my design, and cutting the wires was also easy. When I am done I am going to have to solder my piece so that the design is actually on the ring. We will do that in class tomorrow, on the 4th of January. When we finish our rings we are going to give them to whoever we made them for.

On Monday, December 13, we started brainstorming ideas for our Jewelry project. I am making my Jewelry piece for my grandma. I started by thinking of what she would like. I think that I will make a bracelet, but I’m not sure yet.

On Tuesday the 14th we practiced using the wires to make a ring. I thought that it was a challenge but I figured it out.

On Friday, December  3, we started making our own projects on Vectornator. I started making a New York Giants logo. First, I had to draw the outline of it so I could trace it. When I finished making the outline, I put in into Vectornator and started to go over the outline with the pen tool. So far, I almost have it done. I still need to make it the right size before I put it in the laser cutter.

I just finished my banner on Vectornator. Vectornator is an app where you can draw and edit images or drawings. I made a banner that said my name on it. In class we learned how to use Vectornator and make our banners. Soon, we are going to actually make the banners that we made in class by laser cutting them out.

In tech this upcoming quarter, I am looking forward to learning how to use tools or machines to make items. I think that I will like tech a lot because I like to make things. I can’t wait until we get to use power tools and start using fun and cool machines. I also want to learn about technology in general, like items that people make to make life easier. For example, a toothbrush is an example of technology because it makes brushing your teeth very easy. I wonder if I will make something in tech that people can use in everyday life to make their life easier.

Underwater Dreams Reflection

In computer tech, we watched the movie Underwater Dreams. I thought that it was very inspiring because even though the kids in the movie did not have good materials to build their robot and knew that there were many other schools competing against them who did have good materials, they believed in themselves. They kept trying to win and in the end, even though they were underdogs, they ended up in 1st place. I thought that it was cool how they were able to do that.
