A Long Walk to Water

The part of A Long Walk to Water that had the biggest impact on me was when the group of rebels came and tied Salva’s uncle up to a tree and shot him. I think that a possible message Linda Sue Park is trying to convey is that you should never give up and to keep on walking. There is symbolism in a Long Walk to Water when he got to the refuge camp it symbolized after a lot of work you can achieve your goal. My overall thoughts on A Long Walk to Water are that it was a good book and built my vocabulary.

Fifth Grade Halloween Party

Halloween party

It was October 25th at 6:00 pm. The whole fifth grade was at the heathcote gym for the halloween party. As kids walked in they made their way to the calfateria to eat pizza, marshmallows and many other good treats. While in the gym a DJ was starting games and blasting music. Some kids saw the guessing jars of cheese balls, marshmallows, candy corn and Tootsie Rolls and started filling out more and more and more guesses, oh and it looks like the DJ has just started another game. In this game you have to run to the middle and high five your teammate when he says right or left. And if he says Spongebob you have to go to the middle with your partner and jump 5 times. Last one to do that is out. And that is how to play that game. And that is how the fifth grade halloween party was.

The Protest

Protests

Protests. That’s what there were in the Heathcote lunchroom Scarsdale, NY. The lunch aids have just announced an indoor recess because it is supposed to rain soon. And the entire fifth grade is booing them because it is not raining yet. The lunch aids are trying to calm everybody down but not many people are listening. Now they are yelling ‘’LET US OUT’’ at the aids. Now the gym teacher is starting to yell at kids to quiet down and they are finally starting to settle down. Now that everyone is quiet he tells everybody to line up and they listen. When they are in the fourth grade wing some kids start making posters that say LET US OUTSIDE and are walking around and putting them in the aids faces. And this is how the indoor recess protests happened.

In rocket 2 we changed the size of our fins because in rocket 1 the rocket didn’t go as high as it could have because the fins were holding the rocket down. I also had fun pressing the red button for the launch. Rolling up the paper for the rocket was the most challenging part of making the rocket. Our team also worked really well together with the design.

  • Launching

What stands out about our teams launch is that our rocket got off of the launcher.

What stands out about our classes launch is that all of the rockets went really high.

My team job was the rocket launcher and I had a lot of fun pressing the red button.

  • Graphing and analyzing the data

Our rocket went 86 feet.

Our rocket changing the size of our fins.

  • collaboration

Our team’s collaboration during the launch was great

Our team’s collaboration when graphing the data was also great

Designing and building rockets

In our design for our rocket we had a little bit of a discussion about what size rocket we should have, because some of our group wanted to have 17 inch rocket and some of our group wanted to have a 15 inch rocket. After reading about the weight we decided to make it 15 inches.

Our inspiration boards helped our group make our rockets by showing us designs and pictures of actual rockets and designs for our rocket with information about Newton’s 3 laws and more
