Tech Post #6

In this week of tech we did a lot. We finally finished our necklace’s and are soon starting something new. We are watching a video about these kids who got trapped in a cave and are in need of rescue. Our mission is to make them flashlights so they can see. Next week we will start building!

Tech Post #5

In this week of amazing tech we built our own necklace’s! I made mine as the planet Saturn because it seemed like a cool thing to make it as. We started by making ideas of what we wanted to do then into shaping the wires then finally into soldering the wires. Solder makes the things stay together and not separate. Finally this week was fun.

Tech Post #4

This week: This week I did a lot. I finished a project and am in the making of another one. I started my first project last Friday and wanted to make a cross chain from the laser cutter. I then later finally did my drawing and put it into vectornator. once that was done I then printed it and put it on a chain! it turned out good! Then yesterday the 12th of may we started making these designs on circles to make anklets. Overall i’m very excited to finish and continue my project.

Over this last week we’ve done so much. We learned how to make things and learned more about vectornator. We’ve all started making our own projects that will get laser cut by the laser cutter and that we can have for ourselves. I decided to make a chain that has a cross on it. I haven’t gotten it back yet but cant wait to see my final project. I’m very excited to be able to do more in this class and think that it is a very fun class.

We are now finishing tech week number 2! This week we did a lot. To start we watched a movie on the periodic table. Later, we learned about lighting and the electrons in them, we learned that when lighting is near and we are the tallest thing in range we should lay down to have a less chance of getting struck. Lastly today 4-28-22 is our first workshop day which I personally am very excited about!

In today’s class we had a very fun time. In the beginning of this class Mr Calvert explained to us that we had some sort of test. He told us that if we weren’t able to complete it we wouldn’t be able to do any projects because we had to unlock a box. In the box there were goggles which we need for any machine we use. For the good 30 minutes of class that we had to do it, my team won! In the end I had an amazing time with this activity and would love doing it.

Final Capstone Blog Post

Answering my main inquiry was hard but it also had some good parts to it. To answer my inquiry question (Which is “what are the main differences between mixed breeds, random breeds, and purebreds”)I had to bundle up the information that best supported it. Then once I had bundled up that information I had to make an essay which answers my main inquiry question. Overall I think the essay part took some time but it was helpful for my final project because I had the information I just needed to make it into a script and change some wording. Here is the link to my essay:

Capstone Essay

After I finished my essay I had to get started on my actual project. I had the choice of choosing TedTalk, Ignite, or WeVideo. I chose to do a WeVideo because I liked the part of not having to memorise although I did memorize it without trying because of the times I redid it. I needed to try many times because sometimes I would stumble and sometimes I would go way too fast. I got a little frustrated at times but in the end I think it came out good. Overall I think that this was a fun project and I had an amazing time learning about a topic I wanted to learn more about.

Capstone Interview Blog Post

Friday the 14th I interviewed Joseph A. Zuckerman. He is an veterinarian for the Ardsley Veterinary. I chose Dr. Zuckerman because I wanted to interview someone who was an expert in dogs, I did this because if they know a lot about dogs then they could answer my questions openly. I recorded the conversation because I would have access to it from my phone so I could take notes for my project. I had 13 questions that were approved by Ms. Edwards my fifth grade teacher. My questions were:

  • How long have you been a vet?
  • What’s your favorite part about being a vet?
  • What’s your least favorite thing about being a vet?
  • What’s one of your best memories of treating a dog?
  • What’s one of your most unusual experiences treating a dog?
  • What’s your favorite dog breed? Why?
  • What majority of dogs do you treat? (purebreds, mixed breeds, or random breeds)?
  • Among purebreds, mixed breeds, and random breeds is there a difference with how long they live? Why or why not?
  • Among purebreds, mixed breeds, and random breeds, is there a difference with their health, in general?  Why or why not?
  • Among purebreds, mixed breeds, and random breeds is there a difference with their temperament? Why or why not?
  • Some people look down on people buying a dog from a breeder vs. a shelter. What are your thoughts on this?
  • What advice would you give someone looking into adopting a dog?
  • Is there anything you would like to tell me that could help me with my research?

When Dr. Zuckerman answered my questions he gave good answers that are helpful for my research. For example when I asked him “what he thought on people buying dogs from breeders vs. a shelter, he told me he doesn’t get involved in that but the thing that he mostly cares about is if the dogs are in loving home where they are well fed and taken care of” I agreed with this.

Overall the whole interview experience was an incredible and fun piece of my project. I loved being able to have a interview with a person who knows about dogs. I was glad I could interview someone who knew a lot about dogs. This part was so helpful and gave me so much information!

Rube Goldberg Blog Post #2

Rube Goldberg machines are basically creations that you design to do a mini task for you, my task is that domino hit an empty water bottle into a garbage can. It didn’t take that long to make but the part that took long was the attempts it took many tries to make it work.

When I started building I needed to collect some materials. The materials I used on my machine were domino, a piece of cardboard, a garbage can, multiple golf balls, books, and finally an empty water bottle. After I collected my materials I got straight to work! As I got to work I was getting frustrated by the domino I kept hitting on accident! Although I made them fall a couple of times I got the hang of it.

Once I finished the build, it was a matter of testing. As I tried my first time I actually managed to get it on the first try. I freaked out of joy. I didn’t want to just end it there though. I tried multiple more times to see some fails and even if I could have it work again. I had three failures after my first try but then made it work again! It was incredible. I had to change one thing which was the domino’s hitting a ball that hits other domino’s but that wasn’t major. I changed my complete machine from the sketch I made.

After all that hard work that was put into it, it was time to take it down. I was proud of my work and think I did good on this project. Let me know what you guys think!

Capstone Blog Post 1

For my capstone project I’m doing it on dogs and the differences between mixed breeds, random breeds, and purebreds, I have always wanted to learn more and more about it so I thought it would be a great idea to do it on dogs and the differences between purebred, mixed breed, and random breeds. I want to interview a veterinarian for my project coming from that they know a lot about dogs. My main inquiry question is “What are the main differences between purebreds, mixed breeds, and random breeds” I chose this because it seemed like an interesting question I could learn about. I have a few sub questions that I may change in the future because they are not finalized at the moment. I like my main inquiry that I have right now and don’t think I’m going to change it. I can’t wait to start my slide show although that is in a little bit of time. So far I think I’m in good shape for my capstone project.
