Plants Blog Post #3

Our controlled looks dry. Only two are alive, and they share the same soil. The leaves are 1½ cm wide, and the plant itself is 6 cm tall. There are five leaves. The pods are so tiny! They are pretty new though. The stem feels really strong. The soil looks normal, like dirt. 6 plants have been dried out since the last post.

I think about two seeds will be in the pods because some other groups have two. And usually, pea pods have 1-3 peas in a pod. I think they will look similar, but not the exact same, because they are like the plant’s children and they will not look exactly the same.

I have learned about plants so much these past few weeks. I have learned about stuff like Pollination and Photosynthesis.

Photosynthesis is when a plant collects light (not necessarily sunlight), Co2, and water is put together. Then, the plant makes glucose.

Pollination is when pollen from the same species of plant touches the stigma on the first plant. Then, this fertilizes the eggs in the ovary, allowing them to produce another seed.

Controlled and manipulated variables are when you keep one object the same and change the other one’s variables. The one that stays the same is the controlled, and the one that’s changed is the manipulated.

Every part of the plant has at least 2 jobs. The leaves breathe in the Co2 and release the oxygen, and hold glucose. The stem holds the plant towards the sunlight and carries nutrients to the rest of the plants. The roots absorb water and hold the plant in place.

So now, we just let the plants grow. We are going to harvest the seeds. This was such a fun project!

Our controlled plant is growing at a normal rate. Today, it was 5 inches tall/11 centimeters, and 3 inches wide. It has some buds and has many flowers all over it. It grew a little less than a centimeter per day. It was green and grew up. Since the start, it has grown buds that have transformed into flowers.

The manipulated is dead. It’s about an inch tall. It is less than a centimeter wide. It grew very tall at first. Then it started to die. It’s the brown. It is the same as when we started it, except it’s dead and skinnier. We threw it out.

These things happened because the controlled plant got all it’s needs. It has grown flowers, well, to reproduce. The manipulated died because it had no light. It is this way because it has to have sunlight to live. In conclusion, plants need sunlight to live.

Right is controlled;left is manipulated.
