Read Aloud Reflection – Wonder – 4

Today we finished Wonder and what stayed with me is when Auggie’s mom says “You are a wonder.” This just holds on to me because it is just beautiful and kind. What also stayed with me is when Auggie won the Henry Ward Beecher prize because it was so nice, everyone applauding and cheering. It was a great read, the last part. I really enjoyed reading Wonder and it’s a great book in the whole.

Charlie’s Wish

We read the book Wish in class and Ms. Volpi told us to write a blog post about what we think Charlie’s wish should be, after we finish our Biblionasium log reflections. So here’s my idea.

I think that the best possibility is that Charlie is wishing for a true family. If you think about it, Charlie’s family back in Raleigh didn’t give her much of a proper family experience, so she’s wishing when she get’s back or if she has to stay, she will get a family who gives her the best “family experience”.

Another possibility is that Charlie is wishing to go back to Raleigh because she has all these friends there. Because in the beginning of the book Charlie was talking to her friend, and her friend was saying that she’d hate it with all those country people (she called them “hillbillies” but apparently it’s offensive so I’m going to try to not use it).

My last theory is that she is wishing for a friend after moving because inside she knows she might never get back to Raleigh so she is hoping there will be someone who is fun so she can have a good time.

Why is Halloween a positive thing for Auggie? Halloween is a positive thing for Auggie because he gets to wear a mask. And as he says, nobody stares at him. Also, in the text, he says “I wish Halloween was everyday. Then, people would meet each other before taking off their masks and seeing each others’ faces.”

I think it was nice of Summer to sit with Auggie every day, because in the text it says it was just him and Summer at their table. And this means that Summer was the only one nice enough to sit with him.

Read Aloud Reflection – Wonder – 2

This blog post is the 2nd in a series of blog posts about the book Wonder.

A precept is a rule about a really important thing. My precept is “Knowledge not shared remains unknown” from the book Mr. Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein. It means that you should share knowledge and what you are thinking so everyone can know it, and it’s not lost.

I think Auggie feels sad that he was stared at at school and tried to keep it in but at night it just all burst out. Because during lunch, he was stared at and he said he knew it. And also during class when Ms. Petosa paused for that millionth of a second, he must have felt so different, like he was in a new frontier. Even though he kind of was. Then at night, his mom read the gloomy part of the book and he just let it all out.

Read Aloud Reflection – Wonder – 1

This Read Aloud Reflection is the 1st in a series of posts about the book Wonder.

I thought that it was sneaky how Julian teased Auggie by saying “Is your favorite character Darth Sidious?” because Auggie said Darth Sidious’ face was deformed and Auggie’s face is (not to be mean) deformed. And the teacher, Ms. Petosa didn’t notice because she probably doesn’t watch Star Wars. I also thought it was rude and impolite when Julian asked if Auggie was in a fire at the school tour. I also thought it was kind when he stood up for Auggie when he said “Shut up, Julian!” when Julian asked if Auggie was in a fire. I thought it was kind of Jack to sit next to Auggie when he saw no one was sitting there at lunch.
