For our first desine we failed and here’s what we did.  We put 6 disc magnets on each side of the track and 12 all together. We had to make sure that all of it was lined up though because The magnets have to be lined up to repel. We also made it all facing North.  For our vehical we got 5 disc magnets all together and 4 in the corners. Four the fifth we put it in the middle of the vehicle. We also put them all facing North so that it repels with the track.

 

Our problem that we had was our vical kept wobbling. The goal was to make it go safe and efficiently across the track and not wobble. What we did to revise it was we used strip magnets instead of disc magnets so all the magnets are lined up. We put one strip magnet on each side of the vehicle and 3 strip magnets on each side of the track because more magnets on the bottom, the hire it goes. We did not put it on the vehicle because the more magnets on the top, the lower it goes.

 

Our final desine was 3 strip magnets on each side of the track and 1 strip magnet on each side of the vehicle. Our design worked because all of the magnets were lined up so it repels. Also what made it work was all the magnets were north to each other so that also made it repel because like poles repel and opposite poles attract. Also if the magnets are not lined up then the train will wobble and won’t levitait.

 

How I felt about this is good because we all worked together and we all did the same amount of work on the train and we put everyone’s ideas into the train and one person did not take over the whole train and one person did not tell us what to do.

 

At the end of the whole thing we put marbles on our train. We wanted to see how many we could fit, 1…2…3 and so on all the way up to 40! It was fun and our group made a succesful maglev train.

Today is the second day of creating our maglev trains. It worked! This is what we did. We got 4 long strip magnets and put 2 on each of the track so the repulsion is bigger. On the vehicle we got 2 strips magnets and put one on each side making it repel to the track by doing N to N or S to S. The repulsion got higher since we put 2 magnets on each side of the track. Last, we put the magnets on the vehicle facing up because we new that foam does not affect magnets and we thought it went higher.

 

What we did that failed was the vehicle kept tilting to the wrong side. We tried and tried to get it right and we realized  it was because the train and the track were not lined up. What we learned from it was for the train to levitate or repel the train and the track have to be lined up. If it is not, the magnet will try to find a way to get to the other side and attract. The changes we made was we made were we lined up the track and made sure it had know bumps or if it was curled.

 

We finished our create phase and now we are in the improve phase for the EDP model! We put pebbles on and got up to 30 of them. Our train was a success!

A maglev train is a train that goes really fast and levitaits 10 mm above the track. The bottom of the train and the track have to repel for it to float. It can repel when you put like poles together which is N to N or S to S. My groups idea for our maglev train was to put 5 disc magnets on the vical. Four in the corners and one in the middle. For the track we planed to put about 12 disc magnets on the track in rows of two.

 

Today what we did that works was we put two strip magnets on each side with the side facing N to N to the track. On the track what worked was we put two strip magnets on the sides of the track N to N also so that it repels. What we did that failed was tried the thing that we planned the other day and it did not work because the disc magnets kept attracting from the vehicle to the track and will not repel.

 

The experience working with my group was good because all of us got to do the same amount of work on the train and we talked well and worked together. Also we used all of our ideas into it so that it is fair.
