Al Capone Does my Shirts by Jennifer Choldenko is about a boy who’s dad gets a job on Alcatraz. (A maximum security prison for the worst kinds of criminals.) There Moose (the boy we were talking about) must take on the challenge of making new friends, as well as caring for his older sister who has autism. Anything could happen when you are living on the same island as Al Capone and Machine Gun Kelly. Read Al Capone Does my Shirts to find out more.

The Giver byLois Lowry

I recently read The Giver. It was masterly crafted by Lois Lowry. It is about a boy named Jonas who lives in a town where there is no color, no animals, there aren’t even choices. On assignment day when all of the twelve year olds receive their jobs he is assigned the Receiver of Memory. He is to go to study with the old receiver. It is there that he discovers the truth, and the truth is not pretty.
