Tomorrow for Spirit Day we will have a dance party with our buddies 12-12:15. Come dressed in HE spirit!

NOTE:  We will review bookclub padlet posts today. We need a better effort with our posting by thinking more deeply about our characters and the conflicts they face.  Think about the theories you are making about your characters. Use text evidence to show what your character says or does to support the character traits you develop.  How does your secondary characters play a role in the story? We need to think more about our books for better understanding, rather than just reporting what happened in the stories.  In third grade we need to remember the skills we learned in class to make higher level comprehension posts and ideas. Also, I would like to see more effort on the bingo board responses.  Remember to tell us the bingo board number too.  These assignments are part of your participation for the day.  You should spend at least 15 minutes each on these assignments. If you finish your book, please have one member email me and I will make the next padlet for your club. Everyone should be almost done with their first book.

ELA: Theme with Bingo Board

Today you will be diving deeper into one of the Bingo board activities that focuses on theme. Watch the video and if you would like, choose activity #17 to connect your book club book theme to other books, movies and t.v. shows with the same theme. Use the Shareable Graphic Organizer to help you formulate the theme of your book.

If you choose a different Bingo board activity for today, just be sure to pick something different than what you have chosen before. Post your final product to Seesaw, explaining which book you are reading and identify the name and number of the activity you completed.

SPELLING: WORDS THEIR WAY

Please look at your new sort for this week. Complete a few activities per day (about 15 min).  Leave the writing sort for Friday, otherwise it will erase your data.  You may have to repeat blind and speed sorts more than once to receive 100%.Check all assignments on Friday, then submit all. www.pearsonrealize.com.

Math: Adding and Subtracting Liters and milliliters (Part 1) using various strategies

Watch this video below. Make sure you have a pencil and paper handy so that you may work alongside the video. At times, you will be asked to “pause” the video to think through an idea or “pause” the video to work through the problem to arrive at your next step or solution. If your answer does not match the solution on the video, you may want to watch that portion again to see what your misunderstanding was.

NOTE: The second problem in this video the correct answer is 1L 550ml around 7:55 on the video. Mrs. Luciano by accident copied the problem wrong. It is supposed to be 3L 350 ml- 1L 800 ml which equals 1L 550ml.

Smart Fact

On this day in 1846 first printed copies of “Poems” by Emily, Charlotte and Anne Brontë, were  published under pseudonyms (pen name) of Acton, Currer and Ellis Bell. Women often had to write using a man’s name because it wasn’t considered proper for a woman to be working in the world of literature. Even the wildly popular Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling was asked to NOT use her name, Joanne Rowling, but instead her initials to attract more male readers. Check out this website to learn about J.K. Rowling’s other pen name and books that she published using that name.

WEINBERG NATURE CENTER: Sam Weinstock, the naturalist at Weinberg Nature Center, has organized a weekly Virtual Field Trip for K-5 students.  The webinar is designed to enrich your passion for the natural world and the animals that live within it.  Each week, a different animal group will be observed. Take a look at this schedule to get the links for these special events (it is also in your science folder).

Animals discussed today at 2pm:

Chinchilla family (3)

SMART FACT

On this day in 1993 the World Wide Web was born. A team at the University of Illinois’ National Center for Supercomputing Applications released Mosaic, the first Web browser to become popular with the general public. The next few years saw the launch of such websites as Yahoo (1994), Amazon (1995), eBay (1995) and Google (1998).  What do you imagine the future of the web to be like when you are in college?
