Thursday, April 23 ~ Elearning

Good Morning 3D!

Please watch the video first, then read the blog for closer details.

Remember to plan out your day. Do an assignment. Take a mental break (go outdoors, listen to music, play a board game – whatever you need.) Then come back and tackle another assignment. Try to plan your day like a school day 8:30-3pm, so you have the afternoon and evenings free.

Please remember to visit the specials websites:  Heathcotegateway E-Learning option

Mrs. Sorenson will be having OPEN LIBRARY every afternoon from 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm. Drop in to consult with Miss Sorensen about anything – book recommendations, help with using a database, tips for research, etc. I updated our zoom session chart with her zoom link and password in your SS folder.

REMINDER: Mrs. Gelosa and Mrs. Dolma are commenting and checking assignments on your E-learning slides.

ZOOM SCHEDULE: Please look in your SS folder for the updated zoom schedule for the week of April 20th. Our class will zoom today at 11am. We will have Mrs. Stile visit to read Heathcote’s book of the month today.  Please be prompt and ready by 11am. I will start letting students in by 11:50ish.

I will see students #8, 13, 14, 15,  for a small group today after our zoom.

ELA- POETRY: GOOGLE DRAWINGS

Today, poets, your job is to select your favorite poem from the last few weeks of our poetry unit. Pick one that you are proud of and want to share for our Heathcote Virtual Art and Poetry Festival. Watch the video, and create your own Google Drawing in your Writing folder of your Drive to publish your poem.

You have both today and tomorrow to create your drawing. Please be sure that your spelling and punctuation are correct. Include your first name or your initials only.

Please complete 30 minutes of independent reading. If you would like, check out  Storyworks, Scholastic News, Epic and True Flix on the library databases. The book, “What is a Thunderstorm?” was assigned to you on Epic. Please complete this reading.

MATH- ADDING AND SUBTRACTING COMPOUND UNITS

Today we will continue to look at compound units kg and g.  You will learn a few strategies to help you add mass in kg and g or subtract g from k.  Please look closely at the different strategies mentioned in the video and decide which method works best for you.

NOTE: If regrouping while subtracting is difficult for you, please continue to practice this skill separately. Maybe practice subtraction problems without the units ahead of time. For ex, 127-38 or 456- 76. It is important to understand the renaming process.

**NOTE: math video corrections:

  • #14 b answer is 5kg 100g and
  • #15 I transcribed the problem wrong. The correct problem is 32kg -25kg 750g=6kg 250 g.

Please show your work on a separate sheet of paper and add to your E-Learning slides under math. Remember to be neat and label the pages and problems, so we can refer to your work and guide you if needed.
