Friday, March 27 ~ Elearning

Please watch the video first to understand today’s work, then read the post for closer details:

Remember to plan out your day. Do an assignment. Take a mental break (go outdoors, listen to music, play a board game – whatever you need.) Then come back and tackle another assignment. That seems to be the best approach and one where you can get the most out of your day!

WONDER READ ALOUD: Join RJPalacio live every weekday from 12-12:45. Don’t have twitter? Just go to twitter.com/rjpalacio!

Our zoom session today will be at 11 a.m. (reading lesson on climax ). I shared a google doc titled “Zoom Sessions with 3D” in your Social Studies Folder in your Drive with an updated link. Here are a few things you need to know before our zoom lesson today:

  • Please have paper and a pencil ready for our reading lesson.
  • Please listen to “Because of Winn Dixie”  chapters 20-23 beforehand (It is in your reading folder).
  • Today’s zoom will mostly be a read aloud on chapter 24. Get your tissues ready:( I always get so emotional during this part.
  • Print this out: You will need it for our active engagement work today. Please do not read ( we will do a read aloud today on zoom) I also put it in your SS folder just in case.

Last, you will need to read chapters 25-26 for Tuesdays reading lesson next week. You can get a head start over the weekend if that helps. I will have it in the reading folder by Saturday.

I will meet with students #16-19 today after our lesson. If someone still has a question that was not answered, you can certainly stay on and ask after our lesson.

Reading:

Yesterday we had a great conversation about secondary characters! I hope everyone is able to find a way to chat with their book club members. It is always easier to discuss books with friends and help each other with this type of reading work. If are not able to connect, please  practice the reading work yourself with your independent book. Here are some questions to guide you from our lessons:

  • Did you find the conflicts/problems that your character is facing?
  • Are you plotting on a story mountain?
  • Did you find the turning point where your character faced his/her problem?
  • How did your character change or solve his/her problem?
  • How did your character react to the problems? Remember to list the problems and reactions on a separate sheet of paper to discuss with your book club members.
  • Did you meet a secondary character?
  • Did you make a separate secondary character story mountain?
  • How does the secondary character help the main character (advisor, sidekick, challenger) Here’s an organizer to help jot this information: Secondary Character Organizer

BOOK REVIEW SEESAW DUE TODAY

WRITING:

Also, please remember to post on your own blog  by next week about your reading work. You can explain that every story has a story mountain and you can include a picture of the one you are either creating or created. Another idea would be to post a list of problems and your character’s reactions to the problems.  Last, can you start a relationship timeline that shows positive and negative relationships to the main character? Your blog post should be a reflection about what you are learning and doing as a reader.

MATH: Here’s a video to see how you can measure a shape’s perimeter if the shape has a curved line.

Complete workbook page 171. You can copy and paste or print: You will need string for this workbook page.

A Fun Field Trip for Fun Friday!

Mrs. Mangan explains how to play bingo while visiting the San Diego Zoo. Please watch before you go to San Diego:). These activities can be done over the weekend for fun too!

Let’s take a trip to a place somewhere I’ve always wanted to visit! The San Diego Zoo.

Before you get lost looking at the alligators, bears and cheetahs, take a look at the Virtual Field Trip Bingo Board I made for you (It’s in your social studies folder on Drive).

In Bingo, players complete three in a row to claim the prize. Since the prize here is ultimate knowledge and fun, you can choose one or more activities to complete. You may need additional resources to help you complete some of the activities, so be sure to use the library resources page.
