Thursday, April 16 ~E-learning

Good Morning 3D!

Please watch the video first, then read the blog closely for extra details.

Remember to plan out your day. Do an assignment. Take a mental break (go outdoors, listen to music, play a board game – whatever you need.) Then come back and tackle another assignment. That seems to be the best approach and one where you can get the most out of your day!

Please remember to visit the specials websites:  Heathcotegateway E-Learning option

Visit Dr Schultz’s google classroom for her new assignment: Let’s Learn about the Viola

REMINDER: After completing your work everyday  PLEASE press share and include my email (ldegrazia@scarsdaleschools.org) , so I can review and comment on your slides promptly.

READING/WRITING: POETRY ~ ONOMATOPOEIA

Please watch Mrs. Mangan’s video on onomatopoeia. You will learn how onomatopoeia brings words to life.

Poetic Device: Onomatopoeia

Read 10 minutes or so for poetry

These poems each include at least one onomatopoeia; words that imitate the sound of the object or action they refer to. Read the poems in this website to find some examples. Examples in kid’s writing

Congrats! Our class read 480 books in Epic so far:)

Other Poetry Websites:

  • Go to EPIC  https://www.getepic.com/students and use the code mru9731. if you have not logged in yet.  I have a new collection of poetry books for you to read too.

Please complete 20 minutes of independent reading.  Don’t forget about Raz Kids, Storyworks Jr., Scholastic News, Epic, True Flix, and e-books on the library databases.

Your science reading today can count towards your 30 minutes:)

MATH: MASS AND WEIGHT ~WORD PROBLEMS GRAMS

Watch Mrs. Luciano’s video below. This is a lesson on word problems using gram units. You will be expected to draw a bar model, label it correctly with all parts (known and unknown information) and then solve for it. The examples are provided for you in the lesson and then one problem from your workbook pages is solved so you know what is expected of you.

Complete workbook pages 15-16. If you need more time, this can be due on Friday.  I am expecting bar models, show your algorithm work, and answer statement.

Copy and paste option:Workbook p15-16

NOTE: #9 is long division…you can skip or if you want to challenge yourself…go for it:)

When making bar models, the print option is always easiest. If you do not have ink to print, you can certainly do the digital bars similar to how Mrs. Luciano shows you in the video.  However, another option would be to write on a blank paper and make your own bar models, show your work, and include your answer statement. If you choose this way, please be neat and number your problems so I can easily follow your work. Then take a picture and insert your image into your E-learning slideshow under math.

Print option: WB 15-16

SCIENCE: WEATHER AND CLIMATE

  • Complete your weather journal for today using one of these websites: Wunderground and  News 12
  • Reading on Epic:  If you haven’t logged on to Epic yet, please follow these directions and do so now. Go to https://www.getepic.com/students and use the code mru9731. Click on your mailbox to see the books I’ve shared with you (WEATHER COLLECTION). Read the book Tracking The Weather – Read carefully and take notes on new words/phrases; surprising facts; questions you still have; wonderings. You should record these notes in the science section of your E-Learning Slides.

SMART FACT

On this day in the year 1972, NASA launched the Apollo 16 Spacecraft from Cape Canaveral, Florida. It was the fifth mission to land men on the moon and return them to Earth. If you are interested in learning more about space, check out NASA Kids Club. You won’t be disappointed!

Heathcote Community Service Project – Show them WE CARE!

We would like to welcome all our 3rd grade friends and family to extend our deepest gratitude to those working hard to save lives at our local White Plains Hospital! Our Heathcote Community Service Committee is working alongside Friends of White Plains Hospital for an Art Drive so we can all express our appreciation! Your small gesture will bring smiles to all those working hard to help others in need!

Here’s how you can participate:

This week from April 10th – April 17th, you can create a special handmade drawing, painting, or sketch for all the care providers at White Plains Hospital.

When completed, place it in a ziplock bag and drop your creation off at 51 Lawrence Road. There will be a donation bin located at the front door.

Ongoing Project – COVID-19 Time Capsule

One activity that many students completed during “Wellness Week” was a COVID – 19 Time Capsule. If you didn’t, here is a great opportunity to reflect over how this historical event is impacting you. We are living through history and during times like these, it might be interesting to take notes about your experience and reflect on what you are going through so that years from now, you can look back on this time capsule and realize you have experienced a very historic moment in our world’s history!
