Tuesday, March 31 ~Elearning

Please watch the video first for directions on these assignments, then read the blog post more carefully.

Remember to plan out your day. Do an assignment. Take a mental break (go outdoors, listen to music, play a board game – whatever you need.) Then come back and tackle another assignment. That seems to be the best approach and one where you can get the most out of your day!

Please remember to visit the specials websites:  Heathcotegateway E-Learning option

Please make sure you visit Dr. Schultz’s website too. She has an assignment waiting for you: Dr Schultz’s webpage

Mrs. Bescherer emailed your families and she will have a zoom on Thursday, April 2 from 9:30- 9:45am with all 3rd graders!

Our zoom session today will be at 11 a.m. (Final reading lesson for Winn Dixie). I shared a google doc titled “Zoom Sessions with 3D” in your Social Studies Folder in your Drive with an updated link.

I will meet with students #1,19 and 11 today after our lesson. If someone still has a question that was not answered, you can certainly stay on and ask after our lesson.

Questions? Continue to add to our class Padlet: E-Learning Questions

READING: It is important to understand the story elements of fiction books. The charts below are very helpful with your reading work.

Today, you can work on Session 13 with your book club members. I put this in your reading folder too.

Read an independent realistic fiction (character study) book for 20 minutes and begin to explore poetry with the resources below.

Congrats on ALL your wonderful reading on EPIC!

WRITING:

Also, please remember to post on your own blog  about your reading work if you haven’t done so yet. You can explain that every story has a story mountain and you can include a picture of the one you are either creating or created. Another idea would be to post a list of problems and your character’s reactions to the problems Characters Face and React to Trouble.  Another option could be to add a relationship timeline that shows positive and negative relationships to the main character. Last, maybe add your secondary character chart Secondary Character Organizer: Are they advisors, sidekicks, or challengers? Your blog post should be a reflection about what you are learning and doing as a reader. Please remember to include a picture of one of these jots. This is due Friday.

Reading:

I hope you were able to connect with your book club members again. How does your story mountain look? Did you find more than one problem? How did your character react to the problems? Remember to list the problems and reactions on a separate sheet of paper to discuss with your book club members.

Also, please remember to post on your own blog  some time this week or early next week about your reading work. You can explain that every story has a story mountain and you can include a picture of the one you are either creating or created. Another idea would be to post a list of problems and your character’s reactions to the problems.  Your blog post should be a reflection about what you are learning in reading. I will review this after our zoom session too.

Session 9 is ready for you and your book club members. Remember to continue your story mountain work daily. This is one way to pause, think, and jot.  Readers will be at different parts of their story depending where you are in your book; beginning, middle,  or end.

Session 9(If you cannot download this—I also put it into your reading folder.)

Wednesday, March 25~ ELearning

Please watch the video first to learn about today’s assignments:

Remember to plan out your day. Do an assignment. Take a mental break (go outdoors, listen to music, play a board game – whatever you need.) Then come back and tackle another assignment. That seems to be the best approach and one where you can get the most out of your day!

Please remember to visit the specials websites:  Heathcotegateway E-Learning options

Yesterday’s zoom was a huge hit! I was so proud of the muted microphones and I think blocking out the video image during the lesson was key. Remember everyone is an active participant, so when we pause and practice the skill being taught, you are expected to do the same at home similar to what we do during our mini-lessons in class. Let’s continue to keep any questions for the end, and I will meet with students #6-10 tomorrow after the lesson. If someone still has a question that was not answered, you can certainly stay on and ask after our lesson.
